Tesco have "Turkey Rashers" they look just like the regular slices of cooked turkey without any smoked or cured flavour.

I presume Turkey Bacon is meant to be somewhat reminiscent of real Bacon?

Sorry, but there is no such thing as turkey bacon.

You show me a picture of a packet of cold turkey slices which is labelled as turkey bacon. Oh dear, a clear marketing ploy! There is actually no bacon in this food at all - if there were it would be unsuitable for consumption by Jews and Muslims. So, let me confirm for you again there is no such natural food as turkey bacon.

And where's the Jewish caricature? Or do Jews now eat pork?

You can check tesco online, if you have a clubcard it detects your local store for stock. It shows in mine
    Ballyfree Turkey Rashers 150G

    €2.95 (€19.67/kg)

    Very expensive

there was a thread in after hours about the naming

This is sort of like saying

    "Potatoes or Chips

    I personally call them potatoes."

Rasher is a slice, some dictionaries show "thin slice of bacon or ham," so debatably not necessarily bacon. You see "turkey rashers" more and more now. So just like chips are more often than not made from potatoes, many people drop the name of what it is and say rasher or chips. Same with ketchup, you can get mushroom ketchup now.

A rasher to me is a thin slice of pork which is grilled, baked or fried until crispy, bacon is vague, it could be a rasher or a thick piece of boiled pig.

When I was young the term "rasher" was used when people would attempt to take a slice off someones arse with a ruler, "he gave him a rasher with the ruler". I remember back then many kids did not make the connection either and didn't know why this act (the arse slicing) was called so, probably wondering what pigs had to do with hitting people.

My mate used to be turkey bacon!

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/turkey+bacon
    Slang Dictionary

    turkey bacon definition

    1. n.
a (untrained) night watchman; a uniformed but unoffical “police officer;” fake bacon = cop. : The place is guarded by creeky-kneed turkey bacon. I'll distract them while you sneak in.

"Bacon is a cured meat prepared from a pig. It is first cured using large quantities of salt, either in a brine or in a dry packing; the result is fresh bacon (also known as green bacon). Fresh bacon may then be further dried for weeks or months in cold air, boiled, or smoked. Fresh and dried bacon must be cooked before eating. Boiled bacon is ready to eat, as is some smoked bacon, but may be cooked further before eating."

So this turkey bacon thing simply does not exist! Highly misleading label, in fact! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon

Attention! Please note there is no bacon in bacon fries! This is a deceptive name!!

For somebody so pedantic about the phrase turkey bacon, you really messed up there.

    That's the point!

It's not meant to contain pork nor does it claim to. It's meant to be a leaner alternative to real pork bacon. Same as the way turkey and chicken sausages contain no pork.

The appeal is that they are meant to taste and feel some way similar to eating real bacon without so much fat.

@rubadub, I'm pretty sure those Ballyfree turkey rashers are the ones I saw, they were just the same as any deli slices of turkey, didn't seem to have any curing or flavouring in the ingredients.

I've had it before - its not quite like real bacon but its much more like it than cold turkey slices

The meat for turkey bacon comes from the thigh of the turkey and can be cured or uncured, smoked, chopped, and reformed into strips that resemble traditional bacon. Turkey bacon is cooked by pan-frying.[1] Cured turkey bacon made from dark meat can be 90% fat free, and tastes more like ham than bacon.[2] It can be used in the same manner as traditional bacon (such as in a BLT sandwich),[1] but the low fat content of turkey bacon means it does not shrink while being cooked and has a tendency to stick to the pan.[2]

So is bacon listed as one of the ingredients?

Where did I say a Jew had anything to do with the word 'Muslamic'?

You do know that eating pork is forbidden for BOTH Jews and Muslims. That is the link. My point was that people often seem to forget that many cultural rules are shared by both religions. Why not produce both Jewish and Muslim caricatures if you wish to make a point with regard to the non-eating of pork.
Oh well, they do say Irish people are stupid...

Any more indirect personal insults like this and you're banned. Not sure if you are taking the piss with these pedantic arguments, looks like you are just trolling at this stage.

Nobody thinks it has bacon in it here, anybody with strict dietary needs knows fine well to read the ingredients label, not the marketing tagline. It is supposedly a healthier low fat version of a food people like. For people who like bacon but might not want high fat, high salt food.

Just like quorn "chicken" might appeal to vegetarians who do not wish to eat meat.

I used the word Muslamic which is the reason he posted a joke about that word. A word that doesn't exist. Its a cross between "Muslim" and "Islamic" - I was tired.

Like lots of things/ the Jews really had nothing to do with it. You were the first person to mention Jews. Any mention of Muslims or Islam do not require also simultaneous referencing of the jews. They're different religions. The hindus would feel left out.

Does anyone know where I can get a bear for my little sister for Christmas. I heard these "teddy" bears aren't actually made from real bear.

    Right moving back on topic............

Ballyfree do the turkey sausage and turkey rasher range. I have been eating this for breakfast for the last few years and its safe to say that the rashers are disgusting but the sausages are OK.

My advice would be to buy organic bacon. Check the pork content. Make sure its more than 90%. Superquinn do Superquinn Finest Bacon which is 92% pork and very little additives.

Also just recently I tried to make my own Turkey Sausages and they were amazing. All you need is turkey mince, some herbs, salt pepper, and egg and mix it all up. Make them into sausages or burgers and away you go

I have bought turkey rashers in tesco and dunnes stores over the past few weeks. they are usually on the shelf with other bacon products. they are 2.99
