So Caroline Flack has admitted to having a relationship with Harry from One Direction.

A couple of my friends are in relationships with people 10+ years older than them, so I don't usually care about age gaps but only when the younger person is an adult.

Seems strange that a 32 year old woman would have ANYTHING in common with a 17 year old boy.

What do you think?

The rule I heard was half + 1, but that could be the Pervert Rule.

I read on another website that she wouldn't confirm a romantic relationship with him, just a friendship, but I just can't see it working. It's not the age gap, just his actual age.
So say,that the other rumours are right, and Niall is with Amelia Lily and Zayn with Perrie,what kind of group date would that be with one of the girls almost a generation older! :eek:

I've heard many variants (the French rule, etc) but all tend to specify half plus six or seven, which is a wee bit of a perv's charter anyway the older you get. The origin is supposedly that in Italian peasant culture it's unseemly to go gallivanting with someone younger than that sum. At 50, you're dating 32 and up, which is just about fair enough. If you're a 50 year old with a 26 year old then you're Salman Rushdie dogging after boobies in NYC. Not classy. Scale it back down the years and you could have a 30 yo with a 16 yo. I find it a bit odd. Age gaps wouldn't necessarily be an issue for me, it is just that he is 17. He isn't even legally an adult yet. I just can't see how they would have anything in common. He just should not be at the maturity level that a 32 year old woman would normally expect in a boyfriend.

I think she is definitely living out some form of fantasy she had in years gone by of snogging somebody in a boyband. Fine when she was 17, a bit odd when she is double his age!

I think that Caroline Flack must have some serious issues if she would rather go out with someone who is barely over the age of consent than someone her own age.

How can that in any way be an equal relationship when she is so much older?

She is either trying to get in early because she thinks One Direction will make a packet or else she is sick.

As for him, well he's a developing teenage boy - hormones etc.

Or else it could be the latest in the low levels X Factor sink to every year by releasing some "gossip" or "scandal" or "relationship" in order to keep the show in the top end of the ratings and people fall for it every time. See how long this "relationship" lasts after the final.

Really do not see what the big deal is to be honest. So she's 32? Hardly ancient is it. He's 17, he's an adult (yeah yeah barely etc etc) and hes able to make his own mistakes. Lets be honest, he's gonna be having sex etc anyway-so what difference does it make WHO hes sleeping with.

If she was a bloke and he was the girl, I think there'd be more outrage over this rather than the 'nice' reaction that it seems to be getting. Not saying that people should be outraged - they can do whatever they want - but it's an interesting double standard.

He can still get the children's fare on the bus and other public transport systems (I think).

When this is a possibility you know the age difference is too much.

For the purposes of having sex (and we dont even know if they are) he is an adult. The age of consent in the uk is 16.

how would it be 'different' seeing as everyone is condemning Caroline Flack?

The only similiar one I can remember with opposite sexes is Chris Evans and Billie Piper, I think 34 and 18, everyone thought that was weird aswell.
