    Hi
I was wondering if anybody has any knowledge of protein bars, specificaly Ultimate Sports Nutriton bars. Im looking really to put on weight and I understand the need for a balanced diet and all. I just figured using them as an extra source of protein.

    Any help would be great

Protein bars will help you take in the extra calories to help you achieve a daily calorie surplus but I wouldn't get too hung up on them.

Before ploughing too much cash into them I'd try and plan out a healthy, calorie rich diet and try that first. If you find your diet is still lacking then you could plug the holes with a few trusted supplements.... I tried a few protein bars for a while but I actually didn't like the taste and what I did was started making my own.

All you need is a some whey protein and a few household staples that you'd have in the kitchen cupboard. I'll dig out the recipe for you if you like?:)

As the previous poster has said, if you are looking to put on weight don't get hung up thinking about increased protein intake ut rather increased calorie intake.

There was an excellent thread on here regarding making your own bars. A quick search should find it.

But really all you have to do is keep upping your calorie intake until you start to see an increase in weight.

    Transform Bars

Also Muffin's Oats & Whey bars - Thread here

I personally buy MyProtein Oats & Whey bars as I am an infrequent eater of protein bars so something sealed and has a decent shelf date is more ideal for me. I just keep 1 or 2 in my bag incase I need something on the go.

Here's a recipe for Apple Cinnamon Protein Bars
    Makes 6 Bars
    Each Bar has....Calories: 486, Protein: 49g, Carbohydrates: 23g, Fat: 22g

    Ingredients
    • 8 scoops vanilla Protein Powder
    • 1/2 cups rolled Oats
    • 2 Egg Whites
    • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
    • 1/2 cup Apple, cubed
    • 1 cup Almonds, ground in blender
    • 1 cup Cashew, ground in blender
    • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

    Directions
    1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. Mix the egg whites with the apple sauce and beat for a minute.
    3. Mix the protein, cinnamon, salt, oats and ground nuts. Slowly stir the egg
white/apple sauce mixture into the dry ingredients and
then stir the apple pieces in.
    4. Lightly coat a baking pan with cooking spray and transfer
    the mixture into the pan
    5. Bake for 10-15 minutes
    6. Cool, cut in 6 bars and store in the fridge

There you go - can't really take credit for this. Got loads of these type of recipies from the muscle cookbook "Anabolic Cooking by Dave Ruel.

It took me a few turns to get them exactly right but they were grand in the end;)
