Floorstanders for €600-€800

Thinking of treating myself this Christmas but not sure what to go for. At the moment, I have the following setup It's great for movies but I find it a little lacking when listening to music. I was considering some floorstanders with a budget of €600-€800.

My question really is whether I would be better upgrading the amp and sticking with my current speakers or would it be worthwhile to just get new floorstanders (the amp is capable of running the 5.1 setup as well as two other speakers)

If you were to get floorstanders for €600-€800 I'd think that you wouldn't be getting anywhere near the best out of them by connecting them to that particular amp. An amp upgrade along with some nice floorstanders would be a worthy upgrade but of course that's more money!!

As above, a home cinema amp is rarely good for music.
You could get a decent stereo amp, and use the pre-amp outlets on your HC amp to connect to the new stereo amp.
You could also connect direct to the new stereo amp from your CD player (via a DAC if you want better performance).
That way you can enjoy proper stereo music direct from your CD and without going through the HC amp. Also, when enjoying 5.1 soundtracks/ movies etc you can use the new stereo amp to just push the floor standers.
This is the set up I use and am quite happy with it.

There is a good offer on Monitor Audio floorstanders over in the Richer Sounds forum at the moment.

Good advice but I'm not sure if the Onkyo has a pre-amp section/connections.

Hmm the Amp IMO would be your weak link. However for that budget I would recommend B&W 684 or 683 floorstanders.

Richersounds over on the Biz forum are doing MA Floorstanders for a complete knowdown price right now £199/pair (these are down from £500/pair)... In fact for your budget you could get these and buy an appropriate amp!! Good luck ;)
