Taoiseach Enda Kenny is set to address the nation tonight ahead of the announcement of more austerity measures in Budget 2012.
The Budget is expected to include spending cuts and tax rises amounting to €3.8bn, as the Government attempts to meet strict targets on the country's deficit demanded by the European Union, International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny's address to the nation will be broadcast from 9:30 - 9:40 on RTE1 and for those watching X Factor/Xtra Factor, TV3 will broadcast the address at 10:15.

I am too young to remember Haughey's "Living beyond our means" address in 1980, here is a little clip, I couldn't find the full broadcast, maybe it is just as well

It won't, as the Taoiseach's address and Love/Hate are both listed on Sky+, so if you have choose to Sky+ Love/Hate it will record as normal.

Becareful what you wish for, if his ratings are very high, we might be subjected to the Queen's Taoiseach's speech on Christmas Day, after the dinner :D

Would annus horribilis come across as well in a Mayo accent as opposed to a clipped British one?

He's got a neck like a jockey's bollocks, but he wouldn't dare upstage Jean Byrne.

That's not his fault, the rate that unemployment is growing has fallen. That's an improvement.
