Where to for Torres?

His career is going nowhere and he's not gonna be a success at Chelsea, the pressure is too great now, imagine the pressure he's under, I'd day he wants a fresh start but where? Back to Liverpool? Inter? Juventus(seem to have money) mayb Anzhi?

Its sad to see, we're watching a world class player becoming nothing in the most dramatic fall ever.

I think Chelsea will offer Liverpool Torres plus cash for Carroll in January.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,235 ✭✭✭✭flahavaj

They're not gonna give up on him after a few months after spaffing £50m on him.

He does look an appalling waste of money at the moment though.

No surprise. He has been meh for two years now. Back to atletico id say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,710 ✭✭✭✭Paully D

    He'll be at Chelsea until:

    1) Someone pays him a wage that matches or is more than what he's on at Chelsea

    2) Someone pays Chelsea near to the £50m they paid for him

So he'll be at Chelsea for a quite a while yet.

is he only there a year in january? It seems ages.

Aye. I can still remember it like it was yesterday hearing that Torres was going to Chelsea for £50m and David Craig nearly ejaculating on Sky Sports News when he heard Carroll was off to Liverpool to replace him for £35m. I can still picture what I thought Ashley and co were doing in the boardroom when that call came in from Liverpool. Something very similar to this I'd imagine:

I don't think he did but he probably will if you add up his wages. What was the transfer fee 30m?

Loan deal back to Spain next season, I'd imagine.

It was £35m I'm pretty sure.

My post was Tongue in cheek as its nothing to do with this thread & has been discussed to death already.

It wasn't £35m, it was £50m - £15m, which is a diferent thing entirely spparently.

His best years are behind him.

Still got a lot to offer but will never be a top class CF again for a sustained period imo.

Certainly not while sitting on the bench.

oh! I'm a bit slow tonight... wrecked tired and the football was very boring today. I couldnt watch the end of the Arsenal game for some reason. It pissed me off bigtime. Same with the Villa game. If I didn't support United I'd have probably just went to bed!

I think Torres will be at Chelsea for at least another year tbh. Always liked him and I hope his form comes back, but not enough for Chelsea to win anything :)

It was the best weekend of Premier League action in a long time IMO. Plenty of high scoring games.

I'd have him back for 15m or a loan deal.

Ya wha? Villa game was one of the worst i've seen in months. A lot of their fans left with ten minutes to go even though they were only one down as they knew they wouldn't score if the match lasted 90 hours nevermind 90 minutes they way they were playing. Chelsea game was mediocre, two goals only coming late to kill it off. Most of the rest were turkey shoots. City and Spurs strolling to easy home wins and Arsenal easing past a dire Wigan side, basically the big clubs against vastly inferior opposition hardly makes for the best weekend of Premier League action in a long time. Only the Blackburn games raised an eyebrow imo.

It's highly unlikely that it will happen but my point still stands.

Newcastle V Chelsea was an excellent game IMO. Full of end-to-end action.

The Blackburn V Swansea game was excellent, and there was a shitload of goals in all the other games.

I agree, the Villa game was poor.

All in all though, a very enjoyable Saturday of football.

I think that he'd do well at Arsenal but since they would never pay anything like what is required in terms of a transfer fee or wages to get him it'll never happen.

...but I reckon he'd be very good for them.

I'd take him back for £20m - once the general feeling against him in the dressing room isnt too sour. I believe theres a world class player still in him and its not long since he was regarded by many as the best striker on the planet.

Yes, what club could possibly want Fernando Torres when they have the mighty Vucinic and Pepe in their first team. I think aul Nando might just get a game :pac:

I'd take Torres at United in a heart-beat. Still has the potential to be an utterly fantastic player, just needs the right midfield and system to get it out of him.

He would be lucky to learn a thing or two from Del Piero

Is it something in his attitude, he always seemed like a passionate lad when he was at Liverpool. His body language on the pitch since moving to Chelsea and in his final months with Liverpool is that of somebody going through the montions and not enjoying their football.

Even if he's playing in a system that doesn't suite him, a striker with his abilities shouldn't be that poor.

    He looks jaded to me.

I could near on describe myself as an ex Liverpool fan tbh. The way he was treated by the fans was a disgrace- Liverpool effectively killed the attitude/ confidence of what was one of the worlds greatest players by slating him for not coming back fast enough from a rake of injuries and then for leaving the club that he loved but that had turned their back on him. Along with their treatment of Roy Hodgson for me that was the moment Liverpool became another Man Utd, in terms of glory hunter fans. Id still give an eye to the big games but tbh for me right now the glory fans have turned them into United Mark II, and it will take me a while to re aquaint any major love for them.

Quality player and still on his day is horrible to play against.

He has been battered mentally since leaving Liverpool. People were calling almost instantly for his head when he wasn't scoring. He might be playing poorly atm but he is still creating a few goals. He tee-ed Kalou's on a plate today.

Impatient more than anything. Fair play to Torres for leaving Liverpool. He was forced back early from 3 or 4 injury spells when he clearly wasnt up to it when he should have been rested for a good few months. Its crocked him for good and its tragic to see a world class striker reduced to a Wigan/ Blackburn level player in the space of 2 years because of it.

    Jesus Wept, Jesus fucking wept.

What about Roy's treatment of the club and fans and the turd football and stupid excuses he put us through, Roy fucking Hodgson was a clueless muppet during his time at Liverpool and the worst manager to ever have got the job. The fool should have never taken it.

You can't blame a guy and call him a fool for showing ambition and wanting to try his hand at the highest level he can. It was Liverpool who offered him the job, he was well within his right to take it.

How many times did he get injured on international duty, or called up after recovering from an injury for Spain?
