Today is the day that Emile Heskey could make his 500th premier league appearance. Only the 6th player to achieve this

Worth remembering that Gary Speed was the first player to do this.

Do people think it's cool to insult heskey ? How sad

You have to have a grudging respect for heskey in his ability to play at the top level and collect big wages whilst being a striker who doesn't score goals

He's a personification of what's wrong with English football. It's players like him that mean England will never be as good as Spain, Brazil, Argentina etc. In these countries footballing ability is more important than size and strength. England needs to change its mindset.

Was McLeish not playing him as a center back recently? Or even in midfield?

Not cool but the Villa team would be better without him starting at the moment especially if he gets put out on the wing as can be the case. He as said is a striker who doesent score goals though so thats were some of the jokes come from obviously but he really puts a lot of work in (normally) and players like playing alongside him. He was linked to moving to Leicster during the summer and imo could have been a hit there but without Sven there I see that as being less likely especially without taking a big wage cut.

There will no doubt be a joke about him moving to Sunderland made soon i'd imagine

Wouldn't make any difference to his scoring record

I wouldnt be the biggest fan if his as a player but he deserves a certain amount of credit

Never got how Heskey had such a successful career. People talk about his ability to hold the ball up as if its something unique. Other strikers can do all that and score goals. Anyway I don't think he holds the ball up that well. He gives the ball away a lot and is not good in the air. Last year's world cup was a good example. Despite this he has a reputation for holding the ball up and that has been enough to make 500+ appearances. No reason he can't score goals as well. He has a reputation for being unselfish but his assists record is poor as well. Plenty of strikers who are unselfish, set up more goals than him but still score a reasonable amount as well, but never got near the English team.

How he played in Liverpool's 00/01 treble season will stay in my head for years. He was excellent that season. Got goals, got assists, and was full of confidence.

I was actually sorry that he was sold at the end of Ged's reign as I thought he was the kind of player that would have done well under Rafa's style of management.

A much maligned player in some quarters, but one that gave this footy fan some good memories.

Yup, remember that goal in the European Super Cup? Heskey could definitely play, he just seemed to have serious confidence problems, when he was good he was really good.

Amazing that a striker that can't kick a ball property has managed to fool everyone for this long.

I'd compare him with Denis Behan but at least the "Hitman" has a decent shot.

he's not gonna score you 30 goals a season but he does a job in fairness. 500 premier league games deserves a little respect

    He swats the ball.

He's like Fultin Reed in the Might Ducks. 1 out of 5.

100% agreed that was his finest season in his career. Il never forget that hat trick he got against Derby away. Twas a super display.. on his day he was a beast of a striker

Heskey could have stole the show in injury time yesterday vs Utd

    But instead he done this...

He's a joke of a player, falls down like a bag of coal if he's even touched.

He's a laughing stock, but good luck to him, he made his millions fooling people.

    Yeah,

He's made millions fooling people. Even though he has 117 goals in his career.

There's alot worse out there then than Emile Heskey i think. true he is not the most technically gifted of players but can be useful and effective in my opinion. that said i think he is above his true level at the moment

I remember on a football weekly episode a few months back with one of the older hacks on it (can't remember who unfortuantely). Anyway, he was saying he remembered seeing Heskey as a youngster. Said he said at that time Heskey was much slimmer and more of a pacy winger type player who was very good on the ball. But his coaches of the day thought he was too slim, told him to bulk up and over time he lost the agility and trickiness that had marked him as a result. In short he seemed to suggest Heskey had much more natural footballing ability than he's given credit for and that he would have been a better player had he been let develop as a winger type instead of a target man. Shame if true.

I seem to clearly remember him being a winger when he came on the scene at Leicester and being highly thought of at the time.

He was absolutely brilliant that season. I think he got about 19 goals,

The thing that annoyed me about him was that he never really used his strength and power enough. He should have been bullying defenders.

Heskey's a decent player, in fairness. People here going on about him fooling everyone? You don't fool managers into giving you 500 PL appearances.

The most galling thing about Heskey is that he's the most physically imposing striker in the league but he carries himself like a soft chap on the pitch. He could and should have been as good as Drogba, instead he's become a bit of a joke.

I remember going to Wembley to watch England play Russia in the Euro 08 qualifying campaign. Heskey was upfront with Owen and the Russian defenders just couldn't get near Heskey, who was completely unplayable.

Heskey has made as good a career as he has at Club level precisely because defenders don't like playing against him. If that wasn't the case and he wasn't as effective as he obviously is then he wouldn't have played 500 games in the top flight.

All of the above praise for previous good seasons doesn't take away from the fact that he is now completely sh** and has been ever since he put on a Villa jersey. The fact that McLeish has been playing him in centre midfield illustrates his incompetence.

For the people that are standing up for Heskey here, would you like if your club signed him, or resigned him? Even a few years back?

His goals to games ratio for an international striker is awful.

FFS if I played as many games as he did I'd score that many too.

Awful player, wouldn't even score goals in the championship, the most un-natural, over-rated footballer out there.
