Coconut oil and its benifits

I have been keeping track of a blog by a nutritionist and she speeks often and highly of the effects of coconut oil and its many daily uses.

I found this link about the benefits. http://alissamoffett.wordpress.com/

It all seems very positive and complements training and general health (if all is to be believed in the link.)

So I went to Tesco extra today to buy some dinner and had a look. Could not find it. I then nipped into supervalue and they also dont stock anything like it.


Would the stuff be worth getting online or going out of my way to obtain? Does any supermarket stock it?
What do you guys think of its claims?

I get it in Dunnes, Cocowell Virgin Coconut Oil, bout a fiver for a tub.

A lot of health food shops have it. I'd buy a small jar first, see if you like it, and if you use it. No point paying for a huge jar if you don't like the taste.

Great stuff alright, it more robust than virgin olive oil so is ideal for stir fry's and the like;)

I've been trying to find a better alternative to olive oil in stir frys etc! does it leave a sweet taste?

The really nice extra virgin stuff does taste sweeter than olive oil and has a lovely coconut aroma (surprising eh?). Cheap stuff doesn't seem to have this. Add a bit of ginger, lemongrass & chili to your stir frys too and just SMELL the goodness!

But not if you're prone to spots as it's comedegenic, as in it blocks pores.

Great for body moisturiser though.

Yeah, its does clog. There are other oils good for the skin to moisturise - canoila, jojoba and avacado
