I suppose most farmers have one tractor, but a second yard tractor can be fierce handy instead of constantly changing implements. Please feel free to name your make and model of tractor(s). I'm already sensing a load of 390s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭rliston

    2 tractors here; a 2004 Mccormick MTX 140 and a 1990 Case 885XL

The Case was the only tractor up to 3 years ago before it was partily retired. Its been parked up in a shed for the last few months waiting for new injector seals and a rocker cover gasket. Need to get around to sorting it out soon before the cattle come in for the winter.

The MTX is used for everything except scraping the yards as it doesn't fit into any shed bar the haybarn :o

99 mf 4245 with loader, fert and general work.
85 deutz dx 90 feeder and topper (was boared out a few times before we got it running some where between 100 - 110 hp)
ford 4600, any konw know what year DNI was. pushes in silage, and pulls fencing trailer.
    96 moffett loading shovel

    most work is contracted out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,616 ✭✭✭8k2q1gfcz9s5d4

00 MF 4245 4wd with loader. we get contractors to do the silage and slurry, the MF does everything else. stacking bales in summer, feeding in winter, topping, pulling a cattle trailer, fencing....the usual stock man jobs

MF 35 being restored at the moment. will prob just have a transport box left on fulltime when it comes back, and maybe a haybob in the summer

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭reilig

    We have 5

1953 MF35 which has been restored and just visits a few vintage shows.

1963 Mf35x - used for putting in round bales in winter and moving calf creeps in summer.

1974 MF165 - used for putting in bales on the out farm in winter or stacking bales in the summer.

1972 MF168 - transport box on it mostly. Also works the log splitter. Stacks bales in the summer, power washing etc.

All of the above are vintage, covered by vintage tax.

2009 New Holland T5050 - it does the heavy work - agitating, slurry tanker, hedge cutting, mowing, double bale carrier, bale trailer, mole ploughing, heavy transport box work etc. Its a comfort!!

1977 David Brown 995 with loader.

Still going strong. I have replaced a lot of parts on it, at this stage. Piston & rings done last year.
Spreads slurry, tops, fertiliser spreading, handles round bales, scraping yard.
Owes us nothing. Bit of a love / hate relationship at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 141 ✭✭weefarmer

Have a 35x that does anything we need, ploughing topping fertilizer spuds good side brakes are essential when moving bales though!
Very easy run too, the 5 gallon drum only gets out about 3-4 runs out in the year, and she does be doin somethin everyday!

    Three knocking about here

1973 ford 4000 with a Quicke 2000 trip loader that we converted to a power loader ourselves. Best tractor ever to come into the place. Used to be the only tractor until about 8 years ago. Pulled a 1300 gallon slurry tanker, drew bales, did all the feeding, topping etc. and only used about 30 gallons of diesel for the winter. Now it is our quad. She also cleans out the sheds as the others are too high for the calf pens and carries the bales of straw and hay (3'6" tine grab never leaves this loader) about to save taking off a shear grab.

A 2001 NH TL90 with a quicke Q920 loader. This is at home and does all the feeding for the winter now as well as some slurry work at the home place. It is then the auld fellas for the summer as I am gone with the other doing a bit of contracting for a lot of the summer. I had to buy him this as he nearly had a stroke over the tractor being gone all summer every year.

A 2008 NH TS115A with an MX100 loader. I do a bit of wrapping, stacking etc. during the summer with this. I also do a bit of slurry work with this during the winter and she spends the winter on the out farm to put in silage bales into the feed passage out there. Any heavier work that we do this does it really.

Zetor 7045:D Dog goes in the cab. I call that the "comfort pack";)
1989. 7k hours. Put a water pump in it and new fanbelt. Aside from that just an annual oil and filter change. Brakes not the best, but we manage ok. Need to adjust regularly, but that is a simple 5 min job.
Drawing and stacking bales, winter feeding, agitating / spreading slurry, and all the other bits of jobs.

We have his and hers :)

197something ford 4600, nearly restored at this stage just needs finishing, put the old ford cab on it as the fritzmeir was red rotten. but mechanically fairly decent. has a ford power loader too.

    4600done1.jpg

1955/6 ferguson TEF 20, has had some work on the hydraulics, fuel system and electrics. currently waiting to be split to replace the starter ring gear. handy as hell, you get up and down off it like a bike, just swing the leg over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 506 ✭✭✭dryan

'82 MF240 - great little work horse for around the yard. Does the hay turning, turf, drawing in bales. Needs a bit of work done this year - new tyres, clutch - worth spending a few quid on.

'05 MF5445 - for the tougher jobs - mowing, loader work, moving cattle. stacking bales.

Would love to have a little mf 240 for small jobs with a cab like THIS one.

197 something MF135 used for scraping the yard and transport box, owes us nothing, got the engine re-done this year but worth every penny deserves a new cab but it'll be next year.

2007 Ursus 475, used for everything else bales, mowing, moving cattle, turf and fertiliser good workhorse plain and simple to use. put a Tanco loader on it and its stacks the bales now aswell.

(DaNiEl1994) Lovely 265, we have one with the lambourne cab aswel. What ya think of them, ours has no heater or radio, so id say a shankey would be more comfortable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭bbam

    Two Here...

1972 David Brown 996 with power loader.. Does all yard work and topping etc when ground is dry, very easy on diesel. Needs a good tidy up at this stage but mechanically very strong. Maybe next summer she'll get the TLC she deserves..

1986 Case IH 885XL, got for the 4WD. In damp years our lower ground was too much for 2WD, They are a beast on diesel and the XL cab is a bit tight in smaller sheds.. Nice comfortable small tractor...

haha, lol... I'll have to next time I have the low loader on it. No bother to it either if driven right in the gears, however it is slow and not suitable for it everyday but it does for me locally:) Pulls 18 round bales of hay on the loader too:D Thats another pic I must get. Ye can have yer big diesel guzzlers, there's no beating the old masseys. Bullet proof they are. Only every had to do the clutch and injectors since 1992:)
Oh and forgot to mention that's with a baler hitch slightly modified to be closer to backend. Had an extra hole drilled in it.

94 MF 362 which is a great tractor and a Ferguson 20 which I keep saying I will get going again or vintage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Donegal09

2004 Fiat/New Holland 110-90 .. treated like a princess, only used to pull the odd load on the dump trailer, plough and haul straw. 2000hours from new

1996 Fiat 88-94 with a quicke loader.. used for mixing slurry, feeding cattle, but mainly loading & stacking bales.

1955 Ferguson T20 used for scraping the yard and the haybob when we get the weather

And the latest addition to replace the TM, 2009 NH T6080 with a brand new Stoll loader. Going to be used on the bale shear and most of the heavier jobs, mowing/baling in the summer and pulling the 2500gl tanker
