TV ads you just don't 'get'

Are there any advertisements on TV that leave you in wonderment, slightly confused or that you just plain don't get?

For me, it's that Heineken ad in the airport with the Elvis tune Bossanova in the background. The one where the girl in the blue dress thinks she mistakenly takes the guys' bottle of beer because he put lipstick on it.

I really dont get it. Is it clever?

    What are your own choices?

The new Muller one. You know the one. It's like their marketing team took a f*ckload of lsd and said, "oh lets get knightrider, Mr Men and cartoon characters from Hanna Barbara in our ad!". What. The. F*ck.

    /thread.

Don't worry about it. All that matters is the ad had the desired effect on you.

At their age I'd say they're as soaking as the Sahara at noon.

How does the current ad sell coffee? It just makes that particular brand look pompous and ego-centric. Better than sex. Yea!

They go to the train and set the bar up there. They're not just dicking about in the snow!

I don't get that muller ad - it just irritates me, and I don't know why they got the rights.

Guy sees another guy try to chat lovely lady up, guy gets cold shoulder. Our hero thinks of a way in with the lovely lady, borrows lady friends lipstick, puts on lovely ladys bottle while lovely lady is distracted. Lovely lady sees lipstick on both bottles and thinks she drank from his bottle, and there's his ice breaker.

Yeah, I get all that.... but what's the look and the shrug of the shoulders about at the end? When she heads off with her GFs? That's the bit that has me puzzled. Or maybe I'm just thick.

She said something like nice try buddy, but I'm lesbian, can you guess which is mine? It's obvious from the outset that she is when she gives the initial charming man the brush off.

Or she could have said 'nice try buddy, but my flight has just been called'. She has a passport and suitcase and is at the airport.

Many adverts are trying to emulate the delicious non sequitur ad that was the Cadbury's Gorilla. All fail.

The IKEA fight ad strikes (hah) me as particularly stupid.

Or she could have said feck off loser, I'm off to have a threesome with these two leggy babes and get a face full of flange and 4 boobies to suck.

Some time back now. The Cadbury's advert with all the air support vehicles racing down the runway spilling luggage everywhere?

I get all this. But that scenario would surely make more sense if it were for a lipstick ad!

He's asking her if she's interested in renting a room at the airport hotel by the hour, but she can't as her flight to Santa Ponsa is leaving soon and she wants to pick up some duty-free John Players

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭robman60

^That's hinting that she wants to give him the ride in the airport toilets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,381 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I think the ad is a hint that Heino gives you the oppertunity to pull a hot bird, but like the drink it is ultimately a letdown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,438 ✭✭✭✭El Guapo!

That ad with the two fat bitches playing the bongos singing "up your bingo" or something like that. Fukn hat that ad

The new John Lewis christmas ad.

It's not that I 'don't get it', because I do, but there is no kid on the planet who runs past his own presents on Christmas morning to give his folks a gift.

It's totally unrealistic and they butcher a Smiths song on top of it all.
