Best time to workout

    Hey everyone,
I recently started going to the gym again after an absence of a few months, when I was in college I used always go running and stuff in the evenings after my lectures, now I'm out of work and its beginning to really annoy me so I decided to go back to the gym.

Now my question is what time is best to get the most out of a workout, I've heard stories of people who get up and go straight into the gym without eating really early in the morning or that you should wait 2 hours after eating before exercising, that kinda thing, I just want to know what is the right thing to do and what can I do to get the most out of going back to the gym, should I try and incorporate a diet into it or get supplements or what, got whey protein before but dunno how/when I should take it, used to have a drink of it after running when i was in college.

There is no right of wrong time.

However most of us will not perform at our best 1st thing in the morning or after a full day in work.

The best time to train would probably be between 11 - 3pm.

    This is not always feasible.

The body will adjust to early workouts but I would advise againts hard weights first thing in the am - cardio yes but weights take a bit of getting used to 1st thing.

You don't want to be yawning as you strap up for a heavy set of squats for example!:)

Hey guys thanks for the tips,

It's mostly cardio I'd be doin first off anyway, normally 30-45mins on a cross trainer to start off my gym sessions and weights machines after. If ye got any advice or tips on a workout itself I'd be more than grateful, hoping to put up a training blog soon too...

What would people recommend eating the day you go to the gym, as in for breakfast would you dav a big breakfast or what would you do?

Sorry for all the noob questions!

6-7. Your body has usually had 3-4 meals and is well hydrated.

I always find going to the gym about an hour or so after I get up the best. I have breakfast in me and then hopefully all the rest of my meals will go towards recovery. Or so my bro science/made up logic tells me.

I'd imagine the best idea is try a few different times and find when you have the most energy.

Sry but what do you mean by 6-7?

What kind of foods would you recommend that you dav before/after goin to the gym? Someone told me protein based stuff was the way to go after the gym to recuperate faster?

the best time to workout is the one you stick to :P read that somewhere

I've done both, mornings and evenings - found I had more energy after having plenty of fluids and food so evening works best for me.

Although a lot of people would say since you are doing cardio its always good to do it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning - drop more fat supposedly.

food wise after - a banana and a protein shake right after will do you, especially if you are training first thing.

    Haha cheers!

I tried going for runs in the morning but with no food taken they were hard to say the least, felt I had no energy at all and as soon as I got going I was tired, at the moment I'm goin in between 2-3pm and its quiet enuf so I just work away. Might stick to that for the moment til I build up my energy levels then try going earlier if it suits me...

what do you reckon would be best to eat before going into the gym, I tend to go the the gym just as I'm starting to get hungry again, don't really have a big breakfast but wondering whats the best foods to eat to give you the most energy going to the gym?

thanks again for all the help!

EDIT: oh yea I got some whey protein stuff off my mate (he runs the site www.hpnutrition.net) he said it would aid recovery after going to the gym, is that what I want or do I need something else?
