Hey everyone. I have recently started taking whey protein. I am curious, do i still take a shake on the days that i dont work out? Do i keep up my diet on my "off" days??

    Thanks,

yes, your body uses protein to repair and build muscles so on your 'off' days you still require enough protein to do the job, and if you're not getting it through solid food a shake is a good way to go.

Be aware that too much protein in your body may not be good for your body. I would suggest taking protein on training days and the night before the training day.

Haha. It basically says that too much protein can impact liver and kidneys. I only brought it up because I took a lot of protein supplements at one stage and I noticed that my urine was very dark. After some research it turned out it was because my liver wasn't processing all the protein properly as I was taking too much of it. It wasn't healthy as I was putting a strain on the liver to process so much protein. So I had to cut down.

I knew this link would come in handy...

OP here is a link from the JISSN on protein and exercise.

And what was the rest of your diet like? Were you on a very low carb diet?

IT sounds more like you were in ketosis but it's not a problem per se, and a useful tool for weight loss.

No, it wasn't a low carb diet. I was on a rich carb and protein diet. Thanks for the link BTW, an interesting read.
