where is all this extra stock coming from?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭Vertakill

It's probably not extra stock, it's probably the same original stock.

I know if I was able to get my hands on them (and if I were a business!)... I'd hang onto them until they were all sold out and then I'd have the ability of naming my price for the.

    Wexford store's not stocking them.

Where is the store in the Eyre square shopping centre? Is it worth hauling my ass out of bed to try and grab one of these?

In fairness €149 is a decent price compared to ebay etc. I think I got mine for €140, not sure as I got a friend of a friend to get it for me in Carlow yesterday so won't get it for a couple of weeks... maybe the guy who bought it for me knew somebody in the shop or something.

hardware and build quality are awesome!!!

    -10 software available is poor.
+5 current os is very very good (imho).
+5 you can stick an older version of android on it ..
+5 at worst it is an awesome remote digital photo player, or you can stream video to it ...
+100000000000000000 it is not an ipad :P

the lack of software might be the main issue for some, but it has a browser and that is quite good and has flash!!

if you pick one up, try and pick one up for me :)

Can these be used with a dongle/sim or do you need to be somewhere with wifi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭adm

I actually bought one off ebay for 250e just the other day for my mum for xmas. I might stick android on it but frankly she just wants it for browsing and has no clue abt the OS. even for 250 the specs are good compared to others i was looking at (like the xoom which is 400)

No the usb port is not powered apparently so dongles wont work. wifi only.

    Dammit :-(
Cheers. Lucky I didnt get one. Last wifi only thing I had meant I nearly lived in the local pub.

Carlow is the place to be. Picked one up in the click store for a friend of a friend for e139 only 24hrs ago.

Not really sure what the big thing is about them as I am not a big teckkie person. Anyone care to elaborate, touchpad v laptop (im a traditionalist) apart from size, weight, and the other obvious stuff.

Might have to pop back to the shop and pick up a few if demand is that strong. I see a business proposition on the horizon :)

Think they're all gone from Carlow now! Are you Tall Paul's friend?

Touchpad's have no keyboard with them, so you use an onscreen keypad. They are easier to carry around, and the OS is quicker to load up (as far as I know!). THey run apps similar to a smart phone, as opposed to a laptop which will run programs like a desktop computer. Some people bought them on impulse and didn't really use them at all once the novelty wore off, sold them off afterwards! but I don't have a laptop (well that runs decently anyway) and have a desktop computer so wanted something i could keep in the sitting room to check emails and look stuff up whilst still keeping an eye on the telly or just being able to relax on the couch instead of being at a computer desk!

Its a pretty rough description of the differences!

Anyone want to get one for me? So typical it would happen in Galway when I can't go.
Willing to pay 20 euro to someone to buy it and bring it to me in Galway.
(I know, long shot but worth a try) :)

Sorry to the PM's, it now appears Carlow is also experiencing a shortage of touchpads as well.

@mp3 That is me alright. Jaysus I would have picked up a few more yesterday if I knew they were like golddust. Thanks for the explanation, laptop is pretty new so I willl stick with it for the mo, would have like the forward facing camera and the fact that its so portable. Might keep any eye out of the next few weeks to see if they get anymore back in stock.

Enjoy yours whenever you get your hands on it, dropping it over to him tonight

"Thank for the explanation" more like thanks you for picking one up for me! You're a legend! Was pretty desperate! Hence I let Paul ask his friend! I'll get Paul a few pints next Friday and he can bring them back to Carlow for ya!! Had been trying to get one for months! Hero!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,329 ✭✭✭The Mulk

Rang them in maynooth, none available.

Galway, Carlow and Mullingar are the only three stores to get the stock.

If someone manages to get one in Mullingar try pick one up for me.

whats the chances of a new store popping up in dublin any time soon? I had given up on touchpads completely... but now?!
