Lads, my instructor says you can get a kettlebell for roughly €3 a kg, just wondering would that be fairly right?

Yeah, excellent company to but from & works out at about €2.50 per kg for competition KBs which are better than the cast iron ones in my opinion

Get the colored ones. They are steel throughout. Handles are fine.

Handles will also be fine on the cast iron ones. Sweat can cause a small bit of discolouration over time.

Neither of the two types are plastic. Both are metal, either steel or iron

Go for the "plastic" Competition ones.
Yes they are bigger and slightly more expensive ,but they are easier on the wrists and dont increase in size as the weight increases.
With the cast iron ones the heavier they are the bigger they are.

I regret not getting a competion bell.

Ya they are good, but ring and arrange a time, its down by the Quay's where Kelly's bar used to be. Its all been redeveloped and its in an old building/warehouse close to Arabica cafe.

The competition kettlebells are the same size but obviously different weights. The also come in different handle width's. I had the option of 3 width's for the 16, 20 and 24 kg I was buying. The middle width is the most popular for men, women best to go for smaller handle width. If you talk to owner(also kettlebell instructor) he can best advise. I found he had best prices.

Can anybody recommend a good kettlebell workout programme for a beginner.

Just picked up a 16kg kb today!

Well proper technique will be a pre-cursor to any workout, so make sure you've got that down properly first, or you'll be running straight into an injury. In saying that, if you reckon you've got that part sorted you could try some modified density training, if not get yourself along to a decent class or trainer for some tips.

Warm up with some wall squats (this without the band) and kb deadlifts then...
20-25swings on the minute every minute for 10mins.
25 swings should take you roughly 30secs, giving you equal work to rest to start with, adjust according to your fitness level.

If you've never done any kettlebell training, that might just be enough to make you 'aware' you've got glutes over the next day or two. :)

    Thanks, cmyk.

I have a decent level of fitness, run 5-6 miles a few times a week, and I have an alright home gym setup: weights, pull up/dip station.

However I feel that I really lack core(torso) strength and do little lower body exercise.
So I'm chomping at the bit to get stuck in to some kettlebell work!.

I'm in Galway and the only type of kettlebell I could get my hands on locally was this one.
€40 and probably not the preferred design, but hopefully will do as an entry level piece of equipment.

As above, best advice I can give you is to find a reputable instructor in your area, either do a 1-2-1 session with them or a few classes to get your technique down and then work away on your own.

A bit much is made of the different kettlebells to be honest, they're a ball with a handle at the end of the day. I will say though, that one looks to have a rubber coating on it? Might get pretty uncomfortable for high rep work if so. Everyone seems to have different preferences for bells, I prefer the competition bells but it'll def get you going in the right direction, and you can always pick up a couple more if you enjoy it. As above I get my kb's from Mark (linked above), and he's a good bloke with decent quality stuff.
