I need to lose some weight. I've never really done anything like this so would appreciate a little guidance. Over the last week I have completely changed what I eat.

Now I am eating porridge w/raisins and a poached egg for breakfast, tuna w/ lettuce & cherry tomatoes and a slice of brown bread for lunch, Chicken and veg (peppers, red onion, cabbage, mushrooms) stir fry w/ brown rice for dinner. Usually have a banana and a satsuma as snacks during the day and drinking nothing but water.

Is there anything I shouldn't be eating in this list? Or something I could substitute for something better? Any other advice?

    Thanks in advance.

If you don't do a lot of exercise, or have a lot of weight to lose, I'd drop the bread and rice. Add in some green veg instead.

I might eat apples or pears instead of the banana, but other than that, it's looking good.

Add some quinoa to your salad - it's full of protein and other nutrients - so will keep you full for longer.

Hi! Your diet looks good, be careful not to cut out a food group, it's not healthy!

Have you thought about keeping an online food journal that tracks your calories? There are bucket loads of websites that are suitable and when you start one it will help you figure out what your target calories for the day should be to achieve your weight lose at a safe rate. It makes it all seem more achievable because you know if you stick to your targets you'll achieve what you set out to. It also means you will learn that you don't have to cut anything out completely, for example it's ok to have chocolate sometimes because you will account for it and learn how to make up for it through exercise etc. I use one all the time now just from habit as it makes me more accountable for what I eat. It also tracks things like fiber, iron etc so I can see trends developing eg I had been v low on fiber so once I noticed it I could make a conscious effort to bulk up my fiber intake. Result - fiber keeps me fuller for longer and combats afternoon munchies!

    Hope that's a help!
