TVs with USB recording functionality question re subtitles

    Hi

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I am trying to sort out something for someone who is hard of hearing.

My problem is that I can't get any reasonable system to record saorview and then play back with subtitles (sky+ is the only one so far that will do this for RTE, etc)

A new TV is being bought and I was wondering if I buy one that you can record to USB from a new TV can you turn on subtitles during playback (same as on Sky +). The only channels I am interested in this for is Saorview channels. I asked in the shop but they weren't sure

Thanks a million for your help

Fergurson already suggested in a previous thread - presumably the OP wants to get an all-in-one solution?

    Thanks for that.

I talked to the man from satellite.ie and he told me the Ferguson it wouldn't work?

I don't necessarily need a television but just want to be certain it will work

That's really odd - I tested it specifically on a Ferguson after your original post and it worked fine. Did Tony do an actual test himself?

Thanks very much for the info. I think I will chance the Ferguson and see how I get on

I assume you turn on the subtitles through the receiver and not the tv itself?

Amazingly the television in question doesn't have televtext!!! Sky has been grand on it as the subtitles turn on through the box

Also I assume it has a coaxial out connection on the box too as the television has no scart input either

Sorry for all the questions but your help is much appreciated

    Yes.

No, it does not have Coax/RF out. Most receivers nowadays don't. You could purchase an additional RF modulator which takes the Scart out from the receiver and converts it to Coax/RF out.

You might post in the existing Ferguson thread so that other people can confirm that it records subtitles before you purchase.

Just an update on this I can confirm the Ferguson box does record subtitles.

Bought a few days ago from satellite.ie and it's working perfectly.

    Thanks for the help
