    Hi just a question on whey and if I am taking enough on days I go to the gym and if there is any need to take it on non-training days?

    1st some background.
    I go to the gym 3 days a week, do 15 mins cardio and 45mins on weights.

    My typical diet would consist of the following;

    Breakfast 7am;
    Bowl of porridge (half cup oats, half pint of milk, 2 teaspoons of flaxseed) and 2 eggs.

    Snack 11am;
    Handful of nuts - almonds or cashew

    Lunch 1pm;
    M&S soup - seems healthy enough.

    Snack 3.30pm;
    Clementine, pear and 1/3 pot of full fat greek style yogurt

    Dinner 6pm;
    Loads of frozen veg (broccoli, carrots, peas, coli flower, broad beans)
    Meat/fish (eg big breast of chicken with presto spread all over topped with cheese, or something like 2 salmon fillets)

    Now if i am in the gym I will have one scoop of whey with water strait after a workout...this being the only occasion i take whey.
    Is this enough for recovery?

    On non-training days i would normally do 100 push ups, 40 in the morning and 60 at night.
    Is there a need to take whey on these days?

    Thanks

    Whey is food, that's all.
    Get it in whenever you feel like it.

    I have a scoop of whey at 06:15, 15:00, 20:00 after trainIng & casein at 22:00

    Try an extra scoop or two per day for a few weeks & see how you get on.

    Try to get 2g of protein per kg of body weight daily.

    Thanks for that.

    I think that the days that I am not in the gym I get enough protein.
    In terms of say the morning after a the gym would it be advised to take some then to get the best possible results?

    I know that whey is essentially a food like any other but don't want to be needlessly wasting it when/if I don't have to.

    Im no expert though :o

    Do you get any form of protein in 1st thing in the morning?
    If not, a scoop of whey would be a good idea.

    You aren't "wasting" whey by drinking it!

    what weight are you btw, from a quick glance of your diet there isn't much in it..its fairly clean tbh but protein looks a lot on the low side on both training and no training days.

    I get 2 eggs in in the morning plus whatever small amounts of protein is in the 2 teaspoons of flaxseed and the milk in my porridge...your right, there is a small bit there but not a whole lot.
    Took a scoop of whey as soon as I got up this morning before I ate anything.

    I am somewhere in between 10 and a half stone and 11 and usually stay at that weight. Never get up as far as 11. Sorry haven't weighed myself in a while. I am 173cm.

    Thanks for the advice, I was under the impression that I was getting enough protein throughout the day so appreciate the advice.
    Would a scoop of protein added on non training days and 2 scoops on training days be sufficient?

    I would try and eat more ideally to get more protein but I just dont have the time.

    Use fitday.com to work out how much protein you are getting in.

    As I said earlier, aim for 2g of protein per kg of body weight.

    At 10 1/2 stone, that's about 68kg which means you should be aiming for 136-140g of protein per day.

    A quick look through your diet gives me:
    2 eggs - 10-14g of protein
    Milk - 10g of protein.
    Chicken breast - 35g of protein.
    Scoop of whey - 24g of protein
    Giving a total of 85g or so.
    It's probably more but I still don't think you're getting enough protein.

    Cool, great breakdown on what I get from my food...looks like I should be getting in another 50 to 55g of protein in on a daily basis.

    The whey I use is from Holland and Barrett, the 'Precision Engineered - Whey Protein'...for each scoop (25g) there is 18g of protein so to supplement my diet 3 scoops a day should do the job :)
