€20 per ticket. 300,000 tickets for sale for the draw on 31st december!

2,236 prizes, so whats that? about a 1 in 134 chance of winning a prize?

I will get 5 tickets sure if your not in you wont win :)

They're actually not bad odds considering the ordinary Lotto has odds of something like 1 in 8 million!

No way. Don't know where I got the notion that they were fifty quid from.

Anyway, I guess they'd make good stocking fillers for the gambl0rs in my life.

Why not just buy 5 prizebonds. Right, they cost €11.25 more than the millionaire lotto ticket, but you've a 124/1 chance off winning a prize in a year. And a 320,000/1 chance of winning a million in the year, which is comparable with the lotto draw.
Except you can either get your money back at the end of the year, or just leave it there and let it roll over until the next year!

I have prize bonds over 25 years and there good value like you said but you cant beat the handiness of just popping into any newsagent in the country and getting your lotto, I mean it could be you :)

    That doesn't change the odds.

Anyway, how much is a heap? You're either unlucky not to have won (if your heap is actually big), or your heap is small enough that you were unlikely to win anyway.

€20 for the chance to win a million. Why not?

    rich are stupid also :D

if you are going to gamble - do the lotto in the bookies
for a 2 euro stake if you get 3 numbers its 600 euro , i have won this twice in 2 years
for 3 numbers on the normal lotto you get a scratch card

i also do a 4 euro lotto bet in the bookies and if i get 4 numbers i get 12,000 euro - FOR 4 NUMBERS !!!

i regularly get 4 numbers on the national lottery and only get 5/10 euro , so i can wait till the 4 come up in the bookies - then i can buy a gold covered hooker with a purse full of coke - sweet

This will be fun. I want the president to walk around with a bucket and get a young child to pull out a ticket.

    "it's a salmon coloured ticket...serial number fgl 76b2...7859!!!...

    ....no?....

    ....

....no one with that ticket? Salmon colour? 7859."

Audience member: "pull out another one michael d!!"

    Michael D: "hehe ok..."

    Yay.

I have invested €480 in this now!

So, I rekon I have a good chance of getting at least €500 seeing as there is like 2,100 x €500 prize up for grabs so I should make at least €20 profit!

I dont think they are selling very well this Cmas

Good luck ! The odds are indeed better than the regular lotto, but I spent €200 on tickets for this a couple of years ago, didn't win a cent.

It's a different game, that's why the odds are different. In Lotto you choose 6 numbers and if you match 4 you win about €50 (€15 Lotto + 1, €10 Lotto + 2). In the bookies you choose 2, 3 or 4 numbers but you only win if you match every number.

Casinos pay out about 95%; bookies about 80%; the lotto, about 50%. You could

No, you should make a loss of €200+. Could have got some pretty good Christmas stuff with that.

Hmmn, so, if you get 1 ticket here, thats a 300,000/1 chance of winning the top prize for €20.

Prize Bonds is starting to sound like a better option! Does anyone actually know what the Prize Bonds odds are? Like how many numbers/letters are in a prize bonds draw to pick from if you get me?

Has anyone ever met or heard of a prize bond winner? a big winner I mean. Not the €75 or €250 guys...!

Surely all these odds are irrelevant if the lotto don't sell their full allocation of tickets? I bought one ticket, I'll walk to the shop on New Years Day when I'm hungover, and scan it, might get a nice surprise!

The results appear every Friday at 12.30pm here

    http://www.prizebonds.ie/livedraw/drawresults.asp?0

They started in the mid 1950's so there are millions of them out there. If you look at the map every county is probably represented correctly in proportion to it's population and every group of serial letters wins every week (click the link under the map). Nearly all the prizes are €75 but I won €1000 last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 413 ✭✭noxqs

Lottery is a tax on people who don't know math.

1/300,000 chance to get a million. If you bought half the tickets in the raffle you'd have a 50% chance of winning a million, at the cost of only 3 million euros.

Sure someone always wins but it is a proven fact that to win the lottery you have to be a pensioner - preferably an old miser who never spends money. These people seem to have extraordinary luck compared to the average Joe.

So what figure are we talking here then roughly speaking? 1 in what?
Normal lotto is say 1 in 8.4 million,
xmas raffle is 1 in 300,000 so what is prize bonds does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,528 ✭✭✭Patrick2010

Try picking 4 numbers in the next lotto draw in the bookies, for a 1 euro stake you'll get 6,500 euro if your 4 numbers come up, 550 if you pick 3 numbers and they come up.

I understand the math perfectly well, as I'm sure many 'players' do. But I like a bit of a gamble aswell! Your second paragraph is very ironic.

From the Prize Bonds site FAQ.

A customer with €1000 invested has a 3.6 to 1 chance of winning a cash prize in a 12 month period.

My Question is if I win this and quit my job can I also claim the dole on top of my 1 milion euro.

To anyone else out there thinking of buying a ticket don't bother, I've already won it.

I have done this every time it comes out....Christmas, Easter, etc. I have also bought presents of these tickets for friends and family - not once and i mean NOT ONCE have I or anybody I bought tickets for EVER won as much as 1 red cent.

I have a feeling the "pull" the non-used numbers as winners. It's a bit of a coincidence that with all the tickets I purchased that nobody's numbers even came close to winning ANYTHING.

although I should have copped on....I think the first time they did this draw they did it during the rose of tralee in Kerry and you would never guess where the "random" winning tickets was bought .....yes, in Tralee in Kerry.

I've a heap of prize bonds stretching back 30 years and never won a penny.

I had over a thousand and kept it in for over a year. Nothing. Yeah, I know that's more probable in the odds than actually winning. But still !

My parents had a few k in over a few years and just won €75. On the other hand, a good friend had a few hundred in and won approx 15k inside the first 6 months, but nothing ever since.

My 98 year old Granny has a Prize Bond from 1953 (March, the FIRST draw!!!!) that I mind for her and keep an eye on. It has never won a cent . Oops, sorry @macman2010 :P I hate that phrase too ! Imagine though, five pounds in 1953. You'd always want to be mindful of inflation.... and other parasites such as quantitative easing. I think I'm gettin 'queasy' just thinking about it! Bah humbug

I've had two bonds since the early 1960s and never a penny nor a cent return.
However, if I decide to cash them in now, I think they were 5 pounds each (though bought at different times and were more than a week's wages) do I get the face value?

124/1 chance of winning a prize in the prizebonds in the year ? Just where are you getting this information out of ? My Mum has had prizebonds since she was a student nurse in the 1950's. She has about 400 euro worth over the years and never won nout. My aunt has em for years and never won nout. I've bought 100's of euros worth for my nieces and nephews and they haven't won yet. In 2008 seen the largest take up of prizebonds with over 800 million invested in them. In one year. I'd imagine the fund is in the region of 10 billion. I be interested in any link that states you have a 124/1 chance of winning in the prizebonds ? I'd be interested in any statistical data on prizebond winning odds ?
