Just wondering if anyone knows of the cheapest place in Tralee to get an oil change done on cars?
Mine needs doing soon, and NCT coming up in Jan, so would love to find somewhere that doesn't charge a fortune!
    thanks :)

There's an Eastern European lad who has a garage on Basin View just beside the back gate into Kerry Group. I go to him a lot - he's very good value and knows his stuff.

If you have a Volkwagen or Audi (or any of their derivatives, etc.) I would recommend Cunningham Motors. They have the full VW diagnostics and are fairly reasonably priced. I have been using them for 2 or 3 years now and have no complaints. They are in the Clash Industrial estate, entrance across the road from ITT South Campus/Tralee Community College.

thanks, I must look into both of those for prices. I have a Renault, and I was thinking of just going to Adams, as they were very good to me this summer with a goodwill gesture, but not sure how much they charge for things like this.
I am trying to sell the car privately (not a trade in as getting rid of one car), but it seems impossible & will be worse once this motor tax increases!

If you are just getting something as simple as an oil change done, then definitely go to an independent mechanic. It's a relatively straightforward job so there's no point paying main dealer prices. Just make sure they use good quality oil like Castrol.

I rang Adams and they quoted me €100, which I find very expensive! I'm definately going to go to a independent garage. I hopefully won't need much more than the oil change done for the NCT!
    Thanks again!

I heard on the radio today that all Renault dealers(including Adams) have a winter servicing deal which includes oil change and filters etc for 89e, still not that cheap but if they are still quoting 100e when its clearly stated on national radio for 89 i definatley would take my business elsewhere.

    p.s. i drive a renault aswell...ah well,i suppose everyone makes mistakes:rolleyes:

    FYI,
All the Renault branding has been / ie being removed from Adams, some Hyundai branding has gone up.
A lot of renault dealers gone in Cork in last year or so, with Kearys taking on the Renault dealership.

yeah Adams are no longer Renault dealers, doing Hyundi now. Prob why he didn't quote me the promo offer!

The SEAT-signs are now gone from Joe O'Connors garage as well, or at least they are covered from sight.

Not entirely sure why that is. Joe is selling Seat since time began.
Lots of dealer tweaking going on around the town lately.

haven't got around to calling Cunninghams yet for a price, but was also recommended a place opposite the NCT centre, run by Polish guys? anyone know of them?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 9,469 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ciarrai76

I booked into Cunninghams for after Christmas. I was very impressed with the price for an oil & filter change....€35 for my car!! Now just need to book in my NCT & pay my tax....all in the one month, nice eh LOL No wonder I'm TRYING to sell my car, can't keep up with it all anymore!

    What car ya got/selling?

It's a 2004 Renault megane. I'm happy enough with the car, just can't really afford to have one at the moment, although I am going to go insane without a car!

THREAD IS A BIT OLD BUT WANT TO ADD THIS.

Iv been using a guy out in the spa and recently he has opened a garage in monavalley called R&A Autos. Lads in there will run a mile for your custom and they used elf oil on my renault and castrol on my wifes nissan. both cars oil and filter changed cost 120. Washed and checked her car for the test free of charge. I was always a main dealer man but since the tiger got shot iv been using this guy who stamps the book and runs free diaganostic check. Cant ask for more than that. Why give your car to the big wigs in main dealer whos staff are 1st and 2nd year app when qualified mechanics can do it cheaper and use better oils. Just my 2pc worth.

Hi all. Its gone past few years since the thread was posted so not sure if above recommendations can still be helpful. Because of that I would repeat same question as I really need a good garrage with reasonable prices. I have Renault Megane 05, the lads would have to be specialised with Renault or at least have a good experience with them as I know they are tricky cars and not everyone is good enough to fix them. So folks, anyone here is a proud owner of Renault and could reccomend me good&reasonably cheap place in Tralee or arround Tralee that I could go to with my baby :)

I have a Megane also, and I have used Cunningham motors up in Clash a few times now. Poff's is another who are meant to be good, out the Blennerville road.

I no longer have a car, finally sold it, but I did see on FB that there's a place out the Listowel road called R&A Autos, just beside where Kingdom Autos used to be who do good deals on servicing etc.
Currently this is what they are offering until Friday, 19th but they always seem to have some sort of offers going:

All 1lt cars oil and filter €40
    1.1 cars €42.50
    1.2 cars €45
    1.4 cars €47.50
    1.6 cars €50
    1.8 cars €52.50
    2lt cars €55
All prices above are based on petrol cars and include vat.

Diesel oil and filter as follows inc vat
    Cars between 1lt and 1.6 diesel €50
    Cars between 1.7 and 2lt diesel €70.
Full service deals are also available please text me on 0863741393 or pm me for details.
As usual regular service gets free mini valet and full service get full valet.
Please like my page R&A Autos for more special offers..
Spaces are limited for these offers so its first come first serve so book in early as this offer is for 1 week only and will end next Friday at 5.30.

Those prices do look like good value. They are not making a fortune profit on them.
Ideally suited for the budget concious motorist.
Everytime I pass that garage there is always someone outside it so they are busy.

At those prices I am surprised they are making any money. Perhaps it is an introductory offer, if not they won't be in business for too long.:)

Hi people I am the owner of R&A Autos and many thanks for the good feedback. Delthedriver I can assure you im gonna be in business for many years cause im not here to rip people off and even at those prices I still make a profit and I keep my customers happy. If you check out my facebook page you will see many new deals I offer and I firmly believe that if I offer a good service at the right price people will return. Just cause im cheap don't mean I use bad materials. We use the same filters as main dealers and I use gulf oils which are recommended by 95% of car manufacturers.
