    Hello all!!

I'll get straight to it, I need to lose weight, and at quiet a rapid pace too as in I want to see how much weight I can lose in a month, as I have an important party I need to look my best for!

The low down is i'm 21, female, and I'm not quiet sure as I haven't weighed myself in a while but I'm going to guess 10 and a half stone. I would like to lose around 10 pounds in 30 days, and I know a lot of people will say losing it quickly i'll put it on quickly and I'm aware of that so no need for those replies :D

I put on a good bit of weight recently due to student life, aka drinking beer or cider pretty much every day, and loads of junk food. So you'll be glad to know i've completely cut this out, which i'm hoping should make a massive difference. No more drink or crap food.

Instead i'm drinking plenty of water, and herbal tea (jasmine green) etc, which I used to do anyway.

And my basic meal plans will be (on a budget) Breakfast: special k and low fat milk, tea and fruit.

Dinner around 4 or 5: meat (turkey or pork, lean) stir fried with veg. And maybe the odd day a turkey wrap filled with veg. Only bit of sauce im using is a bit of sweet chilli. And then for snacks just fruit and veg really. Sounds boring but im pretty happy with this.

If I stick to this, for around 30 days, with a bit of light exercise (don't have much time) is it possible for 10 pounds to gooo away?!

    Any advice or help?

Thanks very much :D (sorry for longwinded post)

To be honest losing weight for a short term goal is pretty much always guaranteed to fail. I know so many people who measure their lives out in 'target dates' for weight loss. They rarely ever meet them and then they put on more weight than ever before. Most people yoyo diet their way up to their highest weight.

You may lose 10lb, but more realistic is around 5-6lb per month (and if this happened consistently you'd be doing very well indeed).

You also have no lunch so your sample diet amounts to very low calories indeed. You're more likely to stick with this for around 10 days and then crack and eat ALL the biscuits. Sorry if it's not what you want to hear but that's what happens 99.999999% of people who embark on a crash diet. (that's what this is btw)

Just focus on eating healthier, you already KNOW where your problem areas are. Cutting out alcohol is a brilliant idea, I bet knocking that and the junkfood on the head will sort you out especially if I am correctly assuming you are in your early 20's.

Start making all your food yourself, the majority of which should be minimally processed. Eat to satiety but know that you don't need to eat everything on the plate because it's there.

I don't want to lecture you and of course the choice is down to you but if you take this opportunity to improve your life, not only will you look better, but you will feel better and most importantly won't make yourself totally miserable for the next month along with having a solid foundation to continue maintaining.

Best of luck and let us know what happens no matter what you decide to do!

Well done on getting started. You're on the right track, especially having your warm meal in the middle of the day. That speeds up digestion.

Regarding Special K, like most boxed cereals, it is full of sugar and not very filling, in my experience at least. For breakfast, I recommend porridge oats (big grains) with low-fat natural yoghurt (excellent source of protein which will keep you full) and a portion of fruit (packed with vitamins and minerals to keep you full). (You mix all of this together, it takes 2 mins, is very healthy, and keeps you full for a good four hours).

Thanks a mil for the replies :D

The breakfast idea sounds great, I'll go out tomorrow and buy the stuff!! Problem with the country I live in at the mo, everything is so dear, even fruit stuff, and with a student budget it's hard to work, but we'll manage :D

Doing well so far, had a lovely veg omelette tonight for dinner, and a turkey and salad wrap for brunch :P (got up late)

have yet to start exercising, minus degrees here making it seem such an effort, just me being lazy!!!!

Maybe go for frozen fruit and veg if you can then - just as good. Frozen is generally much cheaper across the board.

awh yeah great idea, and just soak them in water perhaps?

the only thing i'd be worry about now is my carb intake actually being too low, but i think we the oats for breakfast, and enough fruit and veg, it should be fine!

Agree, frozen fruit is cheaper. You can get frozen raspberries, strawberries and blueberries at Dunnes Stores for €2 per box, I'd say you'd get four or five portions per box. Bananas are probably the next cheapest and healthiest fruit. If you're having the berries, I defrost them in the microwave and then heat for a minute to make them warm - warm raspberries are delicious with the yoghurt - by the way I recommend Glenisk Organic Natural Yoghurt (Low fat), it comes in large pots and there are usually special offers in Dunnes (2 pots for €4). If you think plain natural yoghurt is too boring, try the vanilla flavoured one, it's really nice. Glenisk is my favourite, but other organic brands are just as good. I find organic natural yoghurt tastes richer and better than the non-organic, but it's up to you to judge.

Regarding the oats, your best value for money is Flahavan's Organic Jumbo Oats. A 1kg bag lasts more than a month, I think. You won't find a cheaper, healthier or more filling breakfast around. ;-)

Thanks a million for that, you're a star!! I'll stock up straight away. Sounds lovely!!

I've been sticking to this 3 days now, and it goes to show how bad my diet was, a lot of sugar, coke etc, and today I'm really feeling it, in a bad way, sugar cravings etc, but I had a kiwi and got on with it!! Ride it out and I'll be grand in a few days, yeaaah healthy eating!!
