Why don't moderators get paid?

Well as the title suggests why dont moderators get paid?

I know there's some crazy arguement that boards couldnt afford to pay the hundreds of them but its funny how boards can afford to advertize and to take money for suscriptions!

I know if my boss told me that they'd like me to work tonight but they weren't going to pay me because they'd come up with the ingenious idea that they'd make more money by not paying me, I'd tell them to go duck themselves!!!

As a mod you must spend hours upon hours glancing through mundane crap as well as answering PM after PM about how unfair boards is or how they're doing a crap job. Also you have to make pretty big decisions like to allow a thread to remain open or how to deal with a poster/

So good people of AH, should mods be paid and why arent they?

I think the question is, why do they do it?

    Murder kittens.

They get paid in women and power. It's all virtual but it's there.

Because money and absolute, infallible, God-like power would only go to their heads. They have to choose between one or the other. In their infinite wisdom and compassion and handsomeness I hasten to add.

Mods rarely read every thread/post. That's why we have report post function.

As for PMs, you just point them to Dispute resolution forum, or extend the ban if they continue to be a dick in PMs. Stops more or less straight away.

The big question is can boards be sold and made into a company like Google.

All mods go to a training course in sociology.

They do it for the false sense of power and importance. Nothing corrupts a man like a ban-hammer and his name in bold.

Does anyone realise how difficult it is for moderators to get laid (in clubs) ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,473 ✭✭✭✭Super-Rush

Being able to read everyones pm is enough payment for me.

doubt the advertising revenue covers all their costs tbh, if you had any idea how much money is required to upkeep a site especially like boards you'd probably cry.

Look at it like an ISPCA Shelter where the volunteers help sick underprivilged needy animals with various forms of dieseases, except in this case the sick and needy are the boardsies...........................................with various forms of dieseases

Each moderator gets a hot poster assigned to them, who they can call anytime. Why get paid when you can get laid?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,980 ✭✭✭Dotrel

You should run for Taoiseach. Then no one could tell you what to do .... except for maybe the US, Germany, France, the IMF, corporations and the international financial sector.

But at least you won't have to listen to the Irish public.

We can call them anytime, but mine always seems to be washing her hair.

You guys don't get paid here ??? We used to get paid on P45. Only €25 a week, but since you spent most of your time there it didn't make any difference.

    Easy money.

Why run for Taoiseach was a better title would be 'King of the World' :D

Boards mods are not the best in the business. The sort of person who likes to volunteer their time for a commerical operation.

You want to be James Cameron? OK but I hope you have plenty of trite movie scripts in you.

I fear the days of amateur (and I mean that in every sense of the word:p) mods will soon be a relic of the past.

Professional-era moderation with highly paid mercenaries swapping between 'Celebrity & Showbiz, Pro-Wrestling, Political Debate, Dental, etc., is the way forward :(
