Titanic was sh1te as it was only about 2 people. There were however over 2300 people on the Titanic. If you want to see a more realistic film about the Titanic then watch a night to remember.

Lots of boats to choose from here and one of the best WW2 movies/series/books ever.

Striking Distance - Bruce Willis has a lovely old classic wooden speedboat
On Golden Pond - More classic American speedboats
Live and Let Die - Bond movie with great speedboat chases.
Amsterdamned - probably the best speedboat chase ever.

Jaws but it needs a bigger boat

Remember the topic is about "boats"not ships so titanic does not count unless you mean one of the lifeboats in it?
All naval ships are likewise excluded with the exception of submarines which are "boats". :)

anyway my selection - in the 1980s Superfly Blacksploitation era ther were a plethora of "car chase" movies. Bullet with steve Mc Queenis probably best remembered and recently immortalized by being elevated to advert status.
There was a movie around that time called Puppet on a Chain which involved along speed boat chase though Amsterdam

[/i]Live and let die[/i] and another Roger Moore Bond film set in Hong Kong ??? The Man With The Golden gun??? both had boat chase scenes.

Das Boot the german submarine movie ( more like a series than a movie) is probably one of my favorites too!

What was the one about the Irishman in the amazon who took the boat upriver and across the Jungle Brian Fitzgerald - Fitzcarraldo!

Mind you ~I liked Captain Blood and all those like Fairbanks who could buckle a swash.

Well if submarines count then it has to be.

    The Hunt for Red October

And for our politicians here is a quote from it. :D

~ I'm a politician, which means I'm a cheat and a liar, and when I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollipops.~ Dr. Jeffrey Pelt

That's the movie I was looking for!
Saw it years ago - great action at the start.
I used to race catamarans and love close fast action like that.
Storyline is predictable and rubbish but the sailing is good.

Another option is Riverwild with Meryl Streep - not very boaty but plenty of action

There is another movie I am looking for - I think it's called Dove or something like that - its about a small sailing boat on a long trip with a storm thrown in for good measure - anyone know it?

Has anyone seen deepwater? I just ordered it off amazon. Its a documentry on donald crowhurst who tried to sail around the world around

Saw it in BBC a few years ago, very good and very sad. I would highly recommend the two books written by RKJ and Bernard Moitessier about the race too.

    Can I nominate a film I haven't actually seen?

The Riddle of the Sands was the most atmospheric book I think I've ever read, one of these days I'll get my hands on the film...

ETA - didn't realise there was a docu about the Donald Crowhurst story, must get that sometime as well.... can highly recommend The Strange Last Voyage of DC by Nicholas Tomalin and Ron Hall

If you can get the audio book of The Riddle it's a great listen too. Very "stiff upper lip" style narration, highly enjoyable.

adrift, always be careful with a boat that has high freeboard...and put the ladder down :p

the Yacht in the film called Godspeed is actually the Dutch yacht Annegine, a Bestevaer 76 designed by Dutch naval architect Gerry Dijkstra & Partners and built by K&M yachtbuilders In Makkum Holland.

    a fine boat.

"King of the Waves" is a short film based on the 1969 solo circumnavigation by Commander Bill King on the 42ft "Galway Blazer II". The film was made by a relative in 2009.

    Well worth the 12min at
    http://vimeo.com/11360812

Features a great quote from the Commander's pen...
"The breathless beauty of the wheeling stars.
The flaming glory of the northern lights.
The muted thunder in a doldrum cloud.
Piled up, evolving, undershot by sun.
Sailor give hail, these works are your bounty, and your grail."

"Message in a bottle" Had to watch this with the wife, she got to see them end up together and I got to see a boat getting restored. Best of both worlds :D
