Where to buy running shoes in Dublin

I'm planning to start the couch to 5k program.

I have a history of back problems after a car accident 12 years ago and various leg and foot injuries (sports injuries, including a few breaks). They have all pretty much healed but I don't want to end up hurting myself by wearing the wrong shoes (or buying an expensive pair of running shoes and ending up giving them to a charity shop).

I want to make sure that I buy the best running shoes for me and that I get some good advice and a proper fitting etc.

I have read articles about places (in other countries) that get you to walk on pressure pads, jog for a bit etc to check out gait, shape of foot etc. Is there anywhere in Dublin that does that?

Elvery's, or Runways in Parnell St both do.

And I'm sure there's loads more.

Good luck - C25K is fantastic.

You might get a better idea over in the Gear and Equipment section of A/R/T. Let me know if you want this thread moved there.

I've purchased several pairs of shoes from Amphibian King in Bray.
Full gait analysis and expert advice, and they even exchanged shoes for me at no cost after I decided that one particular pair didn't really suit me after using them a couple of times.

I fully intend to never buy running shoes anywhere else, ever. :D

Disclaimer: I'm in no way connected to the business, just a very satisfied customer.

Thanks, but that forum scares me. They all seem so serious. Ok if I leave this here?

I'm not looking to become an adrenaline junkie, just trying to get a bit fitter and lose some weight :o

Ah, dont worry, theyre all lovely really. Or at least harmless. ;) And there is a wealth of help for a noob runner there, even if you just lurk and read a few threads. This might help you get your head around some of the a/r/t spk.

Its where we all start, I wish you luck with it. Some good advice there ^^^ on gait analysis.

Steer clear of elvery's if you can, they don't have a great selection and their staff and gait analysis can be a bit hit and miss. Go for either Runway (Parnell Street), Runworx (Fonthill) or Amphibian King(Ballymount and Bray).

Amphibian King in Ballymount also have an inhouse sports therapist/orthotics guy so if your shoes don't work out you might be able to get additional advice from him. www.base2race.ie - AK are also fantastic if your shoes don't work out you can get a full refund within 30 days as far as I know.

Couldn't be more wrong if you tried. The mod who has posted in this thread knows I'm not an employee. Thanks for your input though. Amphibian King don't need the extra business they're a good company and are doing fine, same as runworx/wheelworx and runways - 3 great, customer focused businesses.

Post what you want, no one is stopping you. The OP is asking for advice, give it if you want to.

Depending on where your based check out Elverys I've not had a problem there they will do your gait for free and some insoles too!! You don't have to buy them!! I've beer had an issue there so I'd recommend them must say I have found amphibian king a lil bit mediocre in their service but again I would return to see if they become more knowladgeable

There is a place in Bray - some people consider this to be part of Dublin - :) - called Amphibian King.

Damian has a few brands but the big thing is you get your gait checked - basically walk/run down a small track and they assess the shoes based on how you look on the track.

Transform has been out there - once or twice.

I was there as well - the surprising thing was that I got a bigger size than I normally would have 11 versus 10.5.

My gait was perfect in case anyone was wondering!:D

I just read the whole thread and it seems people have mentioned Amphibian King already with mixed views.

I have to say that Mick Dowlings SportsWorld in Terenure is the biz for running shoes. You get your gait analysed and some athletics or boxing chat if you like.

There aint much he doesnt know abour running shoes.

I know Racoon in real life and while she does have a running shoe fetish, she is far from an employee in any clothing or sports store.

She has abilities with her hands that could potentially kill you ;)

Anyway, if you have a prob with a post REPORT IT please, don't try to de reail a thread where advice is been asked for - there's also a PM function available if you want to bring such issues up.

    Thanks.

If you consider good gait analysis as someone (who may or may not know what they are talking about-depends on luck who you get) looking at you while you run for about 20 seconds on a treadmill then Elverys offer a wonderful service.

In AK, you are guaranteed to have a knowlegeable sales rep. The also measure your feet, examine your old shoes (for wear and tear ares), take an imprint of your arches, talk to you about your training and goals before giving you a few shoes and looking at you running in them. Things like fit, comfort and suitablilty of a shoe to your needs are just as important as whether or not you pronate while running in a shoe.

I was down in that Kildare village outlet place yesterday and there's an Asics outlet now. Maybe an option to save a few quid.
