Lifetime Eclectic Score

Just as a matter of interest does anyone here keep track of their Eclectic Score on their home course?? For those who don't know what this is- work out your score by taking the best stroke score you have ever got for each hole and adding the scores.

I was thinking about this the other day as there is a winter series eclectic which is taken over a number rounds and I got to thinking about my personal lifetime one around my home course.

My scores and versus par for the hole in brackets are:

    2(-3), 2(-2), 2(-2), 3(-1), 2(-2), 2(-2), 2(-1), 2(-2), 2(-1) = 19 (-16)
    3(-1), 1(-2), 2(-2), 3(-1), 3(-2), 3(-1), 3(-2), 2(-1), 3(-1) = 23 (-13)

    Total 42 (-29) Par 71

2 driveable par 4s on the front 9 make that a little bit easier but room for improvement on the back. An interesting experiment and something that I will keep track of to try see how I do by the end of my golfing life (which is hopefully another 50 years!)

Eagled 6 of the par 4's? Either you are pretty talented, play a LOT of golf or else you need to play a proper course :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭acejeff

Perhaps a bit of all three! Played A LOT of golf in my teens, during the summer we're talking 6/7 rounds a week! Fairly talented, have played off 4/5 since I was 15 and quite a lond hitter so can reduce some holes to size. The course I play, while very tricky and tight with devililishly tricky greens, is quite short. As I said, two of the par 4s are driveable, the other 4 and the albatross were holed out full shots from various distances and a hole in one!

Did you play off 7 last year at any stage? I've never seen someone mention their handicap so often.

Stop poking the bear Jeff

In fairness, when I was playing bad over the summer I kept telling myself I have hit par or better on all holes on the course. I think it's good mentally to think that way.

yes I did as a matter of fact, currently 5. What is with this scorn / attitude!!?? Excuse me for trying to start up something of interest. I thought this was a golfing board to start up topics and discuss.

I would be the opposite in that I couldnt tell you what my best scores are for each hole though suspect I have birdied them all at some stage and an eagle or two. Not really sure what benefit it has?
I tend to remember holes where I have done well, say scrambling a par into a howling wind that would give me a positive outlook for that hole knowing I have done well in difficult conditions etc.
How about doing the opposite and scoring your worst score on each hole and depress yourself as to how bad you can be ;-)

You can't say you played off 7 last year in one thread, and then say you've been 4/5 ever since 15. People like me with then question everything you say, this is golf, honestly is everything.

Anyway, it's Friday so we'll let it slide.

Moving on, I've had a look at your numbers above and think I've got a better chance at deciphering the Da Vinci code

Yes of course I do, I've been a member at my club for 16 years. The majority of the last 10 has been spent at 4/5. As was pointed out I did go out to 7 for a short period when my game was struggling a bit (and if the investigative journalist had looked fully through that post they would have seen that) but am happily back to 5 now.

Birdied every hole and have eagled all the par 5's so that makes 50 on a proper course with no drivable par 4's.

Just wondering what proper course you are talking about? because your post came across as very condascending, for the record a lot of courses on the pro tours will have at least one hole which is driveable.

Jeff, we don't really talk about golf here. It's mostly Nama courses, buying raingear and talking about the pros.

I attempted to break the mould last week with this thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056455158 - but only got 1 decent response

Yes they do but they are usually around 330 yards which is well out of reach for most of us.
The op has shot 2 under on a lot of par 4's and a 2 on a par 5 i'd say a lot of pros would struggle to match that with there all time best 18.

So are your reasons for coming on here solely for pulling people up on things they say. 330 yards is out of range for the majority of tour pros too! many times there will be par 4 risk-reward holes circa 270-290

In fairness the "fairly talented" was in response to my post where I surmised that he must be "pretty talented" so it wasn't trumpet-blowing imo.
I've only had one eagle 2 (holed out with a gap wedge) on my home course and eagle 3 on two of the 4 par fives (the other two are effectively unreachable - well one of them can be occasionally reached but it's very rare). I haven't ever had a hole in one so it's 15 birdies and 3 eagles for me. No reachable par 4s.

Just back playing this year,in 6 rounds I had at Grange Castle, combining all my best results, 74 would have been my best. Christ I'd kill for that score.:(

I don't think the OP was just trying to show off. He may have sounded a little too impressed with his talent but I really don't think that was the purpose of the thread. I think most golfers at sometime have wondered what their best all time combined score would be.

Maybe talking about something other than Foregolf and hello money should be encouraged?

Good man yourself. Started a new account just to make this post I see? You must lead a very simple life if all you can do is come on here to poke fun at people and go through everything they say with a fine toothcomb. Ps. Ah don't panic AJ, despite what you think at first instance the thread was not all bad. Most people were just taking the piss and a couple of low post users dragged it a little too far the wrong direction.

Occasionally some cracker threads come up here and would be good to have another knowledgeable member around to participate, also if you telling porkies, even harmless ones or just nice versions of the truth (just omitting things) people tend to spot them fairly fast (even if no harm was intended) . Best to avoid any speculation if you get my drift.

Anyway just let this thread slide, we will see you on the other side. :)

P.s Eclectic score while interesting, was not really. I don't think it stands for anything bar playing a lot of golf. I could barley break 100 and I had birdied 9+ of my home course. Didn't really reflect my golfing ability in the slightest, I just played enough golf to get lucky and hit 2 good shots in a row, or have a lucky chip/putt.
