    Munster:
    J Murphy, D Howlett, D Hurley, L O'Dea, S Zebo, S Deasy
    D Barnes, L Mafi, T Gleeson, W Chambers
    I Keatley, R O'Gara,
    T O'Leary, D Williams, C Murray,

    D Fogarty, D Varley, S Henry,
M Horan, W Du Preez, J Ryan, J Hayes, BJ Botha, S Archer,
    P O'Connell, I Nagle, B Holland, M O'Driscoll, D O'Callaghan,
    J Coughlan, N Ronan, P O'Mahony, P Butler, T O'Donnell,

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/9711.php

Leamy and Donnacha Ryan are out injured while Stringer was released for Barbarians duty.

    I'd like to see:
    Horan, Varley, Archer, Donners, Nagle, Coughlan, Ronan, Butler;
O'Leary, ROG, Zebo, Keatley, Chambers, Murphy, Deasy

Bench: Henry, Ryan, Botha, Micko, O'Donnell, Murray, Barnes, Mafi

I doubt it will happen but I'd like to see Keatley and Chambers at centre. It's potentially a very good partnership in an attacking sense. Then again as Cpt Blackbeard said in the team talk thread, Keatley needs to prove he is a viable alternative at 10 to ROG. POM needs to be getting a knock every week so he could do with a rest, along with Paulie and the Bok props. O'Leary has looked decent in cameos too.

Ronan played very well last week so I'd keep him in the team. There's enough youngsters in the above pack so they need experience around them.

Why not start Keatley at 10 and give him gametime there where he'll be needed should anythning happen to ROG?

Why not indeed. Personally I'd like to see what Keatley could do at 12 though, he was a very good running the ball during the World Cup.

I pretty much agree with you. And while I'd like to see Keatley in the centre, I seriously doubt that will happen for this game so I'd like to see Keatley at 10 with Barnes in the centre with Chambers. And I'd love to see Henry start at hooker too, but it's probably unlikely.

I'm not doubting his ability to create space when he has the ball but I'd much prefer that he settles into the role that he was bought in for. He may very well slip into a Warwick type role playing in one of the back positions when ROG starts but I think he should be starting 10 in as many games as he can.

All indications suggest that there will be a raft of changes alright.

Embra have had two huge weeks. If they have any sense they should target the HEC big time becaue it's s huge chance to make the quarters . And that means resting everyone this week I reckon.

Put the transition year students out and you'll still hockey them I reckon.

Tim Visser is worth at least a try to Edinburgh if he starts.

Good call on the selection Thomond especially Keatley at 12 will be good to see if he can pair with ROG and get the backs moving. Give him 30 mins at the end at FH then maybe. Probably not likely to happen though

Hopefully Niall Ronans good form continues, if he plays like he has been in the HC then a fair few turnovers could go Munster's way.

Zebo seriously needs to start staking a claim for a starting spot in the HC or indeed even for Ireland, saw him in an AIL game a few weeks back and he wasnt anything special at all.

    All Change For Edinburgh Game
    25 November 2011, 11:07 am
    By The Editor

With 13 of his squad unavailable through injury - - six of those current internationals - and the likes of Paul O'Connell, Ronan O'Gara and Conor Murray unavailable to him because of national squad policy, Tony McGahan gives a host of his younger players the opportunity to make an impression in the RaboDirect PRO12 game with Edinburgh on Saturday (Thomond Park Stadium, 8.30)

Only two players Will Chambers and Donncha O'Callaghan remain from the side that started against Leinster earlier in the month. Ten of Saturday's match day squad were involved in Munster's British & Irish Cup win over Neath last weekend, while two more, skipper Mick O'Driscoll and Scott Deasy were in France as back up for the Heineken Cup side.

There's a first start for Luke O'Dea, a first start of the season for Tomas O'Leary, a first start of the season at full back for Denis Hurley and O'Driscoll and Donncha O'Callaghan paired in the second row for the first time since the Harlequins game last season.

The almost wholesale change in personnel provides opportunities according to Assistant Coach Anthony Foley, " Look, whatever side is selected, the players all train together, all sit down and review and preview the opposition. They work together in training. So everyone understands what's required.

"They've (Edinburgh) come off the back of two great weekends in Europe but so have we and with the game in Thomond Park with hopefully a massive support, the opportunity is there for fellas to make a case for themselves because there are places up for grabs in the team."

Munster: Denis Hurley; Luke O'Dea, Will Chambers, Danny Barnes, Simon Zebo; Ian Keatley, Tomas O'Leary; Marcus Horan, Denis Fogarty, Stephen Archer; Donncha O'Callaghan, Mick O'Driscoll capt; Billy Holland, Tommy O'Donnell, Paddy Butler.

Replacements: Sean Henry, John Ryan, John Hayes, Ian Nagle, James Coughlan, Duncan Williams, Tom Gleeson, Scott Deasy.

Not considered because of injury: D Wallace, J Flannery, Donnacha Ryan, Denis Leamy, M Sherry, P Borlase, Darragh Hurley, Dave O'Callaghan, K Earls, F Jones, I Dineen, S Scanlon, T Smith.

Disappointed that Nagle is on the bench. Would have pretty good to see him start alongside someone with DOC's experience. Backrow and backline are fairly young as well. Also glad to see Archer start and hope John Ryan gets some gametime.

15 changes in all, 13 players come in with Barnes moving to 12 and Hurley to FB. The Irish internationals who have started 3 consective weeks are all rested. Good to see a youngster like O'Dea starting ahead of Gleeson who has started on the wing in the past. Nagle really should be starting these games though.

I'm looking forward to see how the backrow and backline do as well!

Edinburgh Rugby team to play Munster at Thomond Park in round nine of the RaboDirect PRO12 on Saturday 26 November:

    15 Chris Paterson
    14 Sep Visser
    13 Jim Thompson
    12 James King
    11 Tom Brown
    10 Phil Godman
    9 Mike Blair

    1 Kyle Traynor
    2 Steven Lawrie CAPTAIN
    3 Jack Gilding
    4 Sean Cox
    5 Steven Turnbull
    6 Netani Talei
    7 Ross Rennie
    8 Stuart McInally

    Substitutes
    16 Andrew Kelly
    17 Robin Hislop
    18 Lewis Niven
    19 Esteban Lozada
    20 Roddy Grant
    21 Greig Laidlaw
    22 Harry Leonard
    23 Gregor Hunter

Tim Visser's younger brother Seb starts on the wing (let's hope he's not as good as his brother!). Chris Paterson and Phil Godman start after recovering from injury.

quick point: game is at 8.30 not 8

I am looking forward to seeing some of the younger/newer players

Only Thompson in the backs (he played 15 last week) and McInally, and Talei in the forwards played against Metro last week for Edinburgh.

Hmm....a very young line-up but one with players that we all hope will step up. Great to see both Butler and TOD starting, I'd have preferred Leamy alongside them but since he's injured, I suppose Billy Holland will have to do. But this is a big chance for Butler and TOD.

Bit disappointed Nagle's not playing, that's the only complaint I'd really have, he's always impressed me.

Hopefully Keatley has a good game, it'll be good to see Barnes and Chambers in the centre together too, that's one partnership I'd like to see in the HC. And Zebo and O'Dea on the wings, that could be exciting.

    I like that lineup.

    Sean Henry is from Sligo.

I think he meant "bred" as to say they came through the Munster academy/system.

I think this is a really big game for Hurley. He needs to make the 15 jersey his own since he will be straight out of the team and probably the 23 when Earls comes back from injury. When he first came on the scene at fullback he looked good but his poor performance against Toulouse in the 08 final set him back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,532 ✭✭✭✭phog

Wet and windy here in Limerick at the moment so not a great night for players or fans but here's hoping for a decent game of rugby. We need to win this one so here's hoping we've enough firepower.

    C'mon Munster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

Have ye got enough in the back row and back three?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

I'm not sure about Holland, at times last season he played quite well, but at lock. The management seem to see him as they have seen Ryan, as a 5.5. He's 26 since September so he'd want to step up fairly soon whatever position he's played in otherwise a first team chance will pass him by. He made 11 appearances both last season and the season before.

O'Donnell also needs to take this opportunity, he's been forgotten about due to the emergence of O'Mahony. Anytime I've seen him play he has looked ok.

Butler was brilliant at u20 level, he hasn't got much opportunity yet at senior level IIRC so it's hard to judge.

They're up against a fairly experienced backrow.

Great vision from Keatley to spot the gap and sprint over there. That and Hurley's line destroyed the defence.

Good play from both Keatley and then a great line from Hurley, easy finish for Barnes but he always seems to run good support lines, which is one of his best attributes imo.

Munster playing good stuff, close enough to plowing over the line.
