Fast Diesel? Under €10k - 2.0 or Under - Over 150BHP

I'm looking to buy a lively diesel. I have been looking online now for a bit but i'm finding it quite hard to see anything decent.

Would like one fairly up in the years as I plan on keeping it for a while.

I'm not too fussy about body shape really as long as it performs and looks nice and is reliable!

    Any ideas?

Thats a nice one. its got the ST sony stereo, steering wheel controls and the 2.2 6-speed. The alloys (while not ST ones) aren't as bad as the Ghia ones.
Didn't that engine have injector issues though?
If the injectors were done it would be a cracker of a car.

    re: Alfa GT :http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2735945
Alarming why the turbo, cluch and flywheel were all replaced before 100k miles. However, the very fact that these items were replaced would make that particular car very tempting also.

I've got one almost identical to the one listed on carzone and absolutely love it - puts a smile on my face every time I come out of the house and is great when you put the foot down too :D. Got it in July of this year and no major issues so far either **touch wood**

I would suggest a Leon FR 550, they are 170bhp as standard and can easly be chipped to produce more, A little over 10K.. but I can guarantee fast!

Sorry to sell it to be honest, but have left the country and just not worth bringing it with me.

Saab 9-3 1.9Tid - either in 120bhp or 150bhp format. Cheap, quick, and reliable.

A quite like the Alfa and the Seat out of all the cars listed and i'm going to go for a test drive in an Octavia VRS to see whats its like too.

I wouldnt really fancy a Saab or a Mondeo.

Check to see if the injectors have been replaced if it is a PD engine. Apparently they give trouble and are costly to replace.

Unfortunately (unless it's changed recently) current VW Ireland policy is that they won't change the injectors UNTIL they fail (potentially at 120 on a motorway of course!). This contrasts rather significantly with VW UK who are proactively contacting (potentially) affected customers and changing them now.

So unless the previous owner had the issue then there's no way to know if it'll crop up down the line and then the battle will start

Only if you ignore the EGR valve issue. When that gets clogged it tends to cause excess heat at the top of the pistons.
Even at that HG failures are not that common on them.

Either I'm missing something or that just seems expensive...

320d/cd and map it. Easily pick one up an e46 for under 10k, and an e90 would probably be <10k

Is that the definite problem? Where did you find that out about the EGR valve?

How about a Renault Megane sport DCI? Think it's a 1.9 with 175bhp. Should be plenty fast. Bring one from the UK maybe?

Chatting to a Lexus engineer. The EGR valve problems are very subtle and go unnoticed very often. Some older diesels are very obvious when the EGR valve becomes clogged and sticky.

or do a bit of surgery and bypass / eliminate the EGR completely. It'll pass the NCT but may throw a CEL occasionally which can be cleared with a cheap code reader as and when required. The EGR is only an emissions thingy so who cares?

    Here you go

    fiat_19_jtd_twin_stage_turbo.jpg

its a Fiat 1.9 JTD twin turbo

188bhp in Fiats or 177bhp in Saabs

    Cheap as chips

You'll generally pay a stupid premium for that sort of car. People falling backwards over themselves to get 170bhp diesels like the mondeo and golfs. Show some balls and get a 530d which is what you really want. Whatever money you will spend extra on tax, fuel or insurance will be more than saved on the second hand price.
