What exactly would Australian studies entail? tying kangaroos down and drinking beer? Because if so I not only support it, but wish to study it myself.

Personally I think kids should study gaming and appropriate Facebook updating.

English would tie nicely in to the fb updating.

I read a comment thread of one friend in which someone posted. "To words, call them.", I really wish I was joking.

Economics should be compulsory for everyone as it seems no one has a clue what equitable means.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,329 ✭✭✭jetsonx

The ability to read the balance sheet of a country. I know this is called Economics but it should be rolled into a subject called Political Education or some sort of civic education.

If people had been able to read the balance sheet of Ireland Inc. well FF might not have as been successful in pulling the wool over people's eyes for so long. In addition, I think most people failed to grasp the seriousness of Bailout because they had the attitude "that's the for the experts".

Well just look at how s#it the "experts" turned out. (Kevin Cardiff and Brian Lenihan spring to mind)

Those are all on the LC in some way or another. There is no 'main' other language they're all an equal choice depending on what languages the school has.

Social skills - The basic ability to go out in public and not shout abuse at people or to drive a car without shouting abuse at pedestrians.

Respect for the environment - People should really be taught not to drop their litter all over the place.

Respect for animals - I've seen morons in their late teens or their twenties standing around at the river throwing cans at swans. These people should be taught that animals are sentient beings and they weren't put on this planet for their amusement.

Don't know whether they should be on the curriculum, but some subjects that a lot of students would find interesting are: law, psychology, journalism.

I'm in 6th Year, I can do what I want.

Also, I wasn't 'tarring all teenagers with the same brush'. It would be a preventative measure, hopefully culminating in a courteous, pleasant generation for us all to enjoy.
