We had a 4 cocks, in the last batch. Small add in local supermarket, and we had customers in two days. Marrons as well.
There is a lot of people getting back into breeding their own. So market for cocks is alive again. At least in this area.

Had 7 hens - or so I thought until 2 of them developed into really fine specimens of healthy cocks. TBH I was reluctant to let them go because they were really fine birds, but didn't want them, put them on done deal on a recent Friday at 11am and they were gone before 4 pm --- albeit for free.

If you decide to kill them for the table, make sure you bring to a properly licenced abbatoir, and you fill out copious amounts of government forms in triplicate and lodge with the relevant authorothies:cool: Just to keep Reilig happy;).

    Don't be abnoxious!

I merely pointed out on the other thread that if home slaughtering was legal, every joe soap and unskilled slaughterer would be killing animals in their back garden "for their own use" (and to share around or sell the extra).

One slip, or one bad press story and irish meat exports will be banned from every country in the world which would ruin the income of every farmer in the country.

Rules are there for a reason, we should not risk the livelihoods of all rural farmers over a sensible and beneficial rule!!
