Hi, can anyone recommend some high protein low carb sources for vegetarians?

I'm doing to Lyle Mcdonald rapid weight loss diet since Monday and I'm struggling to get my required protein everyday. I've been eating egg whites, tune and cod so far this week. Its been so long since I've eaten any fish or meat that the fish is making my retch. Every meal this week has been a nightmare to try to eat.

I'll try Quorn, and I've also read that almonds are high protein low carb so I'll try these but I'll need more options if I'm going to stick to this diet.

By the way I know crash diets aren't a great choice but Ive decided to do it so please don't criticise me icon11.gif. I'm a 5ft 8in female weighing 10st 5lbs and need approx 94grams of protein a day. I'm hoping to lose 12lbs.

    Any help much appreciated

Almonds aren't low carb high protein. They are high fat, and decent levels of both carbs and protein. I'd avoid them on LMcDs RFLD.
    Fish isn't vegetarian either. ;)
Quorn probably isn't the worst. Lyle gives some pretty decent lists of foods to eat i nthe book. I'd stick to them

Quorn's actually not that bad. If you don't like it though just get a tub of protein powder.

It's simply the protein from milk. It won't turn you into a bodybuilder or anything.

Thanks for the almond advice I'll stay way from them so.
I know fish isn't vegetarian thats why I'm having trouble eating it! Unfortuantley Lyle only gives meat sources in the book which is why I'm reaching out to you boardsies for help :)

Thanks for the link Methven, it should provide some helpful stuff.

Thanks for that advice, protein powder would be a good way to increase my daily protein intake but will it fill me up or will I still be hungry after it? Also can anyone recomended a brand of protein powder? It would have to be one I could get in a healthfood shop as I wouldn't have time to get one delivered from online.

Thanks again for all the help

What do you eat in this diet? anything you could mix it into? I find just mixing with water isn't that filling alright.

Any brand in a health store be fine I'd say. Don't bother with the expensive fancy ones when all you need it for is food. Holland and Barrett have some on special offer at 16pounds at the moment. probably 20euro in your local one.

cottage cheese. Yoplait low fat one tastes the best. Lots taste very bad.
About 10% milk protein and very little else.
A study where they fed rats a diet that was mainly caseine (the main protein in milk) showed the rates to have almost zero bodyfat.

    The following are quotes from Lyle;
The diet can be followed as a vegetarian assuming you eat some animal flesh (chicken, fish). A vegan would find it impossible

And in response to a lacto-vegetarian.
The diet can not be done without some form of pure protein source. And short of protein powders, which I don’t advocate, no vegetarian protein sources will meet that requirement. So it will be the wrong book for you

And when questioned is eggs istead of fish/chicken count as a pure protein source, suitable for the diet.
Yes, egg whites are fine although you may get a bit bored eating little but that
