Irrational hatred of Jedward?

Ok so don't get me wrong, I'm no fan but Jedward seem to be subject to a real amount of genuine hatred among Irish people. I even saw a recent post on boards calling for them to be suffocated (in jest I know but harsh nonetheless)

Granted they make terrible bland run of the mill pop-music and they're are pretty annoying but is it right to hate two teenagers for being immature and annoying?

They also seem to make a lot of young people in the country genuinely happy so I really can't see the harm in them.

Do people get too wound up about Jedward?

For what it's worth I think Louis Walsh is a far more loathsome Irish export than J&E

I fail to see what there is to like.

Ryan and Miriam reached the quota and were deemed to be elected on the first count

Jedward will transfer well in my opinion.

I like Jedward. I wouldn't actively seek them out to watch, but, when I do see anything with them in it, it makes me laugh.

Don't get me wrong; I'd strangle myself with my own hair before I'd spent a half hour in their company - but from far away they're funny and harmless.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 550 ✭✭✭earpiece

Problem is.... they are influencing their youngfolk followers to be dickheads too!

I dont really like Jedward. As in they are not in my demographic (Im not a teenage girl :P ) But good on them. And not saying that because they are Irish.

if anyone does anything, no matter what it is and can make money at it ... good money in their case. Good on them.

Cool story (bro) about the Jedwards.

Jedward did a gig in Waterford last year and my housemate who works at the hotel they were staying at told me that after the gig loads of 'Jedheads?' congregated around the hotel awating their heroes immanent arrival.

Anyway there were at least 4 or 5 hundred at this stage and shit was starting to get a bit radical, they arrived and stayed for about 3 hours signing things for everyone and taking photos.

As much as they might be annoying and grating on our souls, you cant say they are not lovely decent young lads.

My daughter struggles with dyslexia and other issues.

Jedward make her smile and brighten's her worse day's, and for that I love 'em.

    F*ck the begrudger's.

Exactly. I don't understand the appeal myself but they're genuinely happy lads, let them keep doing what they're doing if they make themselves and other people happy.

They do loads of charity work too

It's a bit sad to have such a strong hatred of something so harmless

If you don't like them, don't listen or watch, like I do

It's not the 2 guys themselves I despise (fair f*cks to them, getting loaded and laid for nothing), it's what they do and what it stands for.

It;s not a good thing to teach people that having zero discernible talent is the way to fame, fortune and success. This whole 'X Factor' thing hinders originality and talent and ambition.

Why work hard at something, try to be original, try and produce music/films/plays/books that are worthwhile when you can sing out of tune, jump about, utter complete nonsense and people throw money and fame at you for it.

It all adds to the dumbing down of our society which is a terrible thing.

If you knew someone in real life who had their personalities then you'd want nothing to do with them and find them complete dickheads.

Stick them on TV and all of a sudden they're fun, etc?

    Fúck that.

    They're annoying imbeciles.

They are not kids either - they're 19.

I'm sure some people like them, just like some people actually bought Katie Price (Jordan's) biography. Each to their own. My own is that I don't like Jedward.

    idiots entertaining idiots.

I dunno...these days, I generally wouldn't be in the habit of critiquing entertainment that's aimed at kids. The whole thing with people over the age of 20 giving out stink about Justin Justin Bieber bemuses me a little - of course he's a clown and his material is ****e, but his music is aimed a teenage girls FFS.

Having said that, there is no doubt they are absolute Goobers, and there do seem to be a few too many "adults" who actually like their stuff, and come out with reprehensible defenses for the twats - "Ah it's just a bit of craic," "Sure aren't they doing well for themselves," "Typical Irish begrudgery."

Congratulations, your musical taste has not progressed since you were 12.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,198 ✭✭✭du Maurier

They're 20 (so a quick wiki search shows). Any adult behaving like they do would have serious reason to be committed. I don't think they should be allowed celebrate idiocy in the manner they do at the age they are.

In response to the OP, I'll repeat the reasons I gave on an old thread as to why rational people should hate Jedward.
Because they have absolutley no discernible talent whatsoever.

    They can't sing.

    They can't dance.

And between them they have all the charm, grace and wit of a smug turnip.

Despite this, they are constantly being shoved down our throat through tv, radio, and printed media.

They are a disgrace and embarassment. The coverage wasted on them should be going on people with actual talent who have something to offer the world other than stupid gravity defying hairstyles.

I've heard similar stories about them. I know people who have kids who adore Jedward and have come to meet them after panto appearances / switching on Christmas lights, whatever - and they always stick around to sign autographs and interact with the fans. So what if you're not going to learn calculus from them - they're still better than some of the crap that's on tv purportedly aimed at children.

What's more is, they're better role models than a lot of the "pop stars" around at the mo. getting themselves fucked off their faces with drink and / or drugs. They're light entertainment and seem like nice enough lads who have done well for themselves and fair play to them!

They are a pure embarrassment but they do embody the mindless reality obsessed being famous for being famous generation that are being reared today in this country. They make it ok to be a bimbo and annoying and stupid. My wee lad has started coming home from school with the stupid pseudo american accent and it was stop quick smart. He is 5. I will not let him like these t**ts.

    He's looking for irrational reasons?

By definition, there aren't any rational irrational reasons to hate them.

I don't understand why people think they are talentless or morons? What is talent?

Many people measure your talent by the amount of money you make, so...

Many people measure your intelligence by the amount of money you make, so...

I don't get 'em either, the irritating little fvckwits.

But at the end of the day they're harmless, and apart from their fan's - which I'm assured there are plenty, they're all just having the craic.

They don't even pretend to appeal to adults, we're probably too grumpy and moany holes about the recession and other hardships..

Just like Santa Claus - let the kids be kids, there'll be plenty of time for hatred later.

If they just sang performed and fecked off, then fair enough.....each to their own in terms of what they'll buy or watch.

But their pathetic Americanisms, half-sentences, general irritability and hyperactivity is MASSIVELY irritating and yet every media outlet insists on forcing it down our throats......

"sup" is NOT a word, and whatever company has them advertising for them should be shot for crimes against humanity and furniture, as the impulsive dive for the remote as soon as they start their pukey catchphrase has resulted in both me and my belongings going flying on more than one occasion.

And if anyone reckons they're not a bad influence, just think of their smug, deluded "you don't hate us, you wanna BEEEE us" promo.....representing everything detestable about the brain-dead celeb culture that you could imagine.

    ****wits the pair of them.

EDIT : BOLLOX.....that ad came on the TV as I was typing and my ears now hurt.....

I don't have any issue with them at all. They get such a strong level of hate thrown at them, and they just get on with it and don't let it get to them. I don't know if I'd be able to be that laid back about it if I was being treated the way they have been. They're very young, and yes they're silly and more lucky than talented, but they're not hurting anyone and they can be very amusing at times. They're just a couple of kids who are making the best of an opportunity and they don't let anyone bring them down, they seem like very happy, positive people. Fair play to them.

It's nice that they make kids happy, and yeah, maybe they are nice lads, but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to get irritated by them.
They were guesting on a show last night and the others on the show were profoundly pissed off by them - it's not endearing or just craic to everyone. I don't buy the fair play stuff either - any gimp can become famous for a few years, but I don't wish death on them or anything. Weird and sexless for 20 btw...

Obviously I avoid them but it's not always possible. They make me laugh at times though, not because they're funny but because they're so cringey - and just off their heads.
