Each time I set up a new wireless network using WEP key and pass-phrase, the laptop is lookig for a windows username and password for the network. How do I disable this? I tried compmgmt but could not find local users profiles or any thing that would indicate how to bypass this.

What version of Windows 7:Home or Pro ?
Can you take a screen shot of the dialog !?
Is that when you login OR after you have full desktop ?

Also, shift upward to WPa/WPA2,as WEP is not so recommend it these days...

Are you sure you're not having to enter Admin credentials because you're making a change to the machine network configuration?

It is a windows network login box which pop's up after you select a wireless connection, it is not the encryption key and the same message does not appear when I use LAN connection, it's only WiFi, I know WEP is not preferred but it's still possible. It is W7 Home premium.
It happens when 'I have a full desktop'., click on available wireless networks, eircom2334 6676 is default, then the username and password box pops up.Bloody annoying!

Go to Control Panel > Network & Sharing > Manage Wireless Networks and add a profile for the wireless network you want to use. You can check a box to connect to that network automatically and another to use it even if it's not broadcasting.

If you're relying on WEP for security, be aware that a laptop from the last 12-18 months can crack the encryption in a matter of minutes. Even MAC address filtering combined with it won't help much, given that with Wireshark you could sniff enough traffic to then spoof the address of a machine with access to the network.
