    Last year's thread
    Website

So the've just announced that the date is Bank Holiday monday 19th march at 12.30pm.

I did this race last year and it was very fast and well organised. I'm glad to see they kept it in March again this year.

Would prefer to this over Ballycotton but I think it's too close to Berlin, I'll have to check with the boss..

mallow is a great 10 miler. faster than ballycotton... and the new date gives a great chance to redeem oneself if it all goes pearshaped in ballycotton!!

Suits me for a run before Paris - so I will be with whatever gang Mrs Slow can gather [injury permitting!]

Haha fair assumption. Definitely haven't taken the beer goggles off either...

I've got this in the calendar anyway - a couple of weeks before the hell of Conn to keep focused :)

Is Berlin not in September? Or is there another one?

Don't think all the boards people were drunk on the train by the way.

However, they all had crooked noses from what i heard.:D

I did this last year and found it great. Only thing was a single men's bog working pre race. They have told me that its sorted for this year. Times were available within 30 mins fo finish, pacers and excellent route. Doing Ballycotton out of interest but will try and do this one too if the legs are ok.

I signed up for it again this year, the timing is handy as I'll be training for the London marathon in April.

We will be taking entries on sunday at the Dungarvan 10 in the hall from around 10:00.€15 is the entry fee or €20 on race day.

Is this still open for entries? How late can I leave it for this?

Going to be over in other parts of the country for various excessive drinking type events over the preceding few days, just wondering if I might fit in a race as well but can't quite tie down various different plans yet.

I don't think the entries fill up for this one, I could be wrong though.

There are no limits to the number of entries. You can pre-enter for €15 or on the day for €20. There are dry-fit tops for the first 1,000 entries......(Last year, they had 750 runners on the day)

More info with relevant links on my website...http://corkrunning.blogspot.com/2012/01/race-noticemallow-10-mile-race-mon-19th.html ;)

As corkrunning has stated we will be taking entries on the day for a fee of €20 but hope to keep these to a minimum.

That's handy. I'd hope to have my plans figured out before the day though and do the entry beforehand if it does fit in with what I'm doing.

I guess running a fast 10 miler in the middle of March would do me for the lead up to London as I've not found a half that I fancy around then yet.

    A small query.

I signed up this morning and it only dawned on me afterwards that there was no option to give my t-shirt size. Just wondering am I outside of the 1000 cut off mark or will there be correspondence closer the time ?

i dont think there was a 1000 that ran it last year, so your well in for the t shirt, they will ask you your size when you finish, its a great race, nice downhill finish, enjoy:)

I'm liking the sound of a downhill finish, just what you need to help get tired legs over the line. Think that a sub60 is a bit beyond me still, but probably only by couple of minutes, so am tempted to have a go at hanging onto the pacer for as long as I can and see how much pain I can survive.

What's the worst that will happen. :D

About 700 ran it last year I think. I was doing great with my pacer until someone sharted. Nearly got sick so ran around the group and was going to fast so lost pacers in the next mile or so.

There was 2 water stations last year, 4 and 8. There is a small bit of a drag coming up when your coming back into the town but nothing much. Looking forward to this more than the madness in Ballycotton.

    Signed up today.
I've moved the event from "Jan" to "Mar"and updated a course file to gps thread as the existing one seemed to have a dead link.

you'll be fine for a t-shirt and you can just get your size on the day.

signed up this morning. Got through Ballycotton alright dispite some pins and needles so hopefully i will improve on my time in Mallow. Plan is to try and stick with 1.30 Pacer group for as long as possible and then just finish out race. Don't mind being ta back of pack as long as i can improve a bit from Ballycotton

    T-Shirt is nice bonus

Set garmin to display avarage pace and then aim for 7:20 per mile from the start as you probably get tired towards the end. This method worked perfectly for me last weekend. Showing distance, average pace (for the full run not lap), total time. They seem to be looking for 60, 80 and 90 min pacers still http://corkrunning.blogspot.com/2012/03/next-big-racethe-mallow-10-mile-on-19th.html

That's where you lost me! ;)

My €10 stop watch is as technical as it gets. Ach think I'll do the old reliable 'run as hard as you can for as long as you can' routine! No idea if that'll get me a 73 or 77 though. Know I can do about 7 min 45 sec miles for half marathon, would like to break 7.30 miles/75 mins

Check out the course profile and take advantage of the big downhill in the first few miles then just watch the mile markers and stay sub 7:30 between each. I went out for sub 75 last year and came in at 74:22, it's a great course if you're fit enough for sub 75 you'll smash it.

Thats exactly what I'm lloking for, a 75 min pacer. Did Ballycotton in 77 and was hoping I could go a bit faster in Mallow, 70 pace is well beyond me!!

Is it acceptable to hope to run faster in Mallow than Ballycotton?? I'm pretty new to this running lark so unsure if I should aim to be faster or for same as Ballycotton as there is only 2 weeks between the two races:)

It's always acceptable to hope to run faster ;)

I think Mallow is a bit of a faster course for sure, my time there was 1.5 min faster than Ballycotton last year which given they were three weeks apart is unlikely to have been as a result of any training I was doing.

Of course a lot depends on the day itself if it's one of those with horizontal rain blowing in your face then all bets are off!

What you do is run the first 2 miles at 7.30 pace by watching your mile splits. Then if you see someone with a gps watch that is not struggling with the pace ask them what is their goal finish time.
