Avoiding getting too drunk too early

Lads/ladies want your opinion, going to couple christmas parties in could weeks, now I do tend to get too drunk even if I try and pace myself, I've heard the following


1. Eat a meal before going out
2. Drink 1 or 2 pints of milk
3. drink water in between the pints


in saying that we'll be having meal with our party which it's on at 7 but drinking from 6 so if I eat something before hand enough not to get too full for the party meal.


any other ideas I would like to last at lease till 1/2 in the morning?

Hmm, just drink at a slow pace starting off, avoid shots/wine/high alcohol drinks until eating the meal, if you drink on a empty stomach you'll get drunk faster due to there being nothing in your stomach to soak up the drink, so have something to eat before hand but really pacing yourself is the best way :P

Drinking water between pints, what kind of a fairy are you?

What you need is practice, have a few pints every night between now and the party and your tolerance levels will be well up there.

A pint of milk will do no harm, 2 pints could lead you to hurl at some stage. Don't rush the food at the meal just take it nice and easy life a french girl would. Avoid bouncy castles.

Drink a small amount of olive oil before drinking. It delays the absorbtion of alcohol somehow.

It absorbs the alcohol & prevents you getting too drunk too fast.

If youre worried about saving face just drink non alcoholic beer. Or drink coke and say its vodka and coke. Or drink 7up and say its vodka and 7up. Or drink chocolate milkshake and say its baileys. Or harden the f**k up.

Don't drink wine with your meal, have water instead.... Then just drink slowly before and after your meal. It's not hard

Drink bottles not pints, you will not get drunk until late in the night.pace yourself.

What I would normally do...

Have one glass of wine on arrival to loosen the limbs then go on to cordial or 7up til around 10 or 11 and then just have a few long neck Bulmers or Ritz (yes, I drink Ritz)

Then at the end of the night (12/1ish) have a few 'proper drinks' (shorts/shots/wine etc) to round off the night.. by this time people are well on their way and you can enjoy the atmosphere and have a dance without making 40 shows of yourself..

That's just me though

Pint of water every 2 pints done wonders for me on paddys, that and a steak before going out.

My 12 pubs breakfast is 2 steaks and 2 fried eggs with a big mug of tea

can't wait for the feed of guinness after that

I second this. OP, you should have a pint of milk and something like a tuna sambo for lunch that day.

Also:

Avoid shots like the plague.

Swap sugary mixers (main cause of carpet tongue the next day) for diet or non-sugary mixers.

Water, drink plenty of it early in the night, you may forget when you're hammered.

A good feed before starting is always good and try not to drink too fast at the start and of course stick to pints until at least 11 or so, though its hard to resist a hot whiskey or too in between pints these days.

Practice makes a big difference too, I would drink from 6pm until 2am once a week if not twice and can do it quite easily now, there would be no drinking water or any of that sort of peasant carry on either, Id be locked by the end without a doubt but once you are not p*ssed until everyone else is its grand.

I work in a city centre hotel, and with Christmas parties coming up it's a time of year I've started to hate - what with some drunk people getting abusive and vomiting everywhere.

It really is just an issue of pacing yourself and drinking less. If you don't want the others at your party to know your not drinking, then get non-alcoholic beer and pour into a glass or as another poster said just buy the soft drink and tell people there's alcohol in it. Avoid alcohol with dinner - I always do this, I prefer to be able to taste the food I'm eating. And just generally take your time! Oh and avoid rounds as to stay in them, u'll have to drink at the same pace as others, which might not suit u.

Take some heroin between each pint. The heroin neutralises the alcohol if taken regularly enough.

being the idiotic piss head i am, i can tell you from experience that food is the best way to counter embarrassment. I've shamed myself at weddings in the past so what I do now if i'm in a situation where I have to behave, is eat as much of the food that's going as you can, all throughout the night. You don't drink as fast but you can't still get drunk without being retarded too soon. Haven't made a show of myself at a wedding or xmas party in a while, from standing by this rule.

dont drive hungover whatever ye do, my mate is in the traffic corps and breathalysers will be out in force. they know people are checking out of hotels early after xmas parties.with the new limits you could still be way over the next morning.
