Yes, it's BIOS password. Try taking off CMOS battery for about 10 minutes.
That should clear the password. If this is a laptop it may be much more complicated if not impossible

I didnt think bios asked for a password unless you tried to access the bios. Some kind of drive encryption maybe?

Yes there are systems that do. But you are right it could be drive encryption too. can you boot this PC from CD/DVD with HDD taken out?

i have taken out the hdd to see if i can boot from dvd drive. and i cant. no matter what i do it just goes to enter current password screen. i have changed loads of cmos batterys before but i cant find it, i am looking for what i know as a cmos battery(see pic cmos) i cant find it) is there a chance the pics cmos 1 & 2 is the cmos, i have never seen one like that before. its soldered on to the motherboard, not like the standard one you just plug in and out of the motherboard by pins. please see attachments.

    pictures

cmos: is what i consider a cmos battery

    cmos 1 & 2 taken from laptop.

i have no experiance at soldering whatsoever so i dont wanna break it.

Thats CMOS battery. I've seen them mostly on Toshiba laptops.
ask someone who has experience to do that for you or I could help you with that in Dublin.

yo. I come from NBR, bunch of stuck up nitwits.

Interesting board, way too many sections here :D

Anyway I think you can just short the CMOS and get the same result. Oooh, I have that laptop
If it doesn't work to short it, then you could also just get a pair of wire clippers and carefully clip one of the leads to break the connection. You'd lose the time and date every time you restart but it would still work perfectly, and you could always use a bit of wire and tape to reconnect it. Just be careful with that especially, whatever you do don't short anything else while its powered on.
