Chelsea V Liverpool

Going by Liverpools performances the last few years against the bigger teams i cant see anything but an away win in this, unless Kenny plays 4-4-2. If that happens, it could be a very bad day for Liverpool.

Id like to see Bellamy get a start ahead of Downing but i cant see it happening unfortunately.

Liverpool have been a thorn in Chelsea's and man utd's side in recent years..so not sure what you're talking about. Away win could be the value here.

    Thats what i said

If Kenny plays 1 up front then id be very confident of a Liverpool win, its 4-4-2 thats the problem.

I just read this on the BBC site..
Liverpool are hopeful Luis Suarez will be fit despite limping out of Uruguay's match against Chile with a back problem.

Any update on this, is he still a doubt?

I remember reading during the week it was nothing major, he sat out their midweek game as a precaution.

Score draw or Chelsea to nick it by the odd goal

Chelsea to win today i'd say 2-1 with either Suarez or Carragher sent off.

As a neutral, I'm not really bothered about the result but I'd love to see Torres score, just for the craic.

    Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Liverpool.

Don't think Liverpool's performers against big teams in the last few years matters that much. They've changed a lot since last year, not to mention the fact that their goal scorers against us last year both play for us now. It should be ours to lose.

No idea what team to expect from AVB.

Am waiting to see what starting XI Liverpool have to decide my confidence levels going into this game.:)

I think that Chelsea have pretty much everyone, bar Essien, available for this game, so that gives them a damn strong group of players to pick from, and a team that is far far better than many seem to think. Just don't get it when anyone writes the Chelsea squad off as a serious team tbh.

I think I need to see a Liverpool starting XI that suggests a 4-5-1 or a 4-2-3-1 type formation rather than a line up that suggest a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 as I just don't think we have the midfielders at the club to pull off the latter formations to a high standard.

If I was to pick a starting XI and put them into a formation then it would be as follows.

    Reina
    Kelly
    Carragher
    Agger
    Enrique
    Lucas
    Adam
    Downing
    Suarez
    Bellamy
    Kuyt

With Suarez told to just wander and be a pest wherever he likes on the pitch, and Downing/Bellamy switching flanks during the game.

Don't think that Kenny will go with that XI though, and I think that there may be starts for Henderson, Johnson, and maybe Carroll.

Not feeling too confident about todays game, will wait and see what the lineups are like.

Can see Chelsea causing our defence a lot of problems, especially with the likes of Mata in the side. Add to that the Torres and Meireles factor, either of whom I can see scoring unfortunately.

Need to have Suarez on song and its about time the others (I'm looking mainly at you Downing) stepped up to the plate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,194 ✭✭✭mada999

aye don't feel too confident about this one... 1 up front and play it tight and then Andy to score a nice header.. that would be nice!

Is Drogba available? I know his surgery was only minor but I figured he'd be out.

I'd expect Ivanovic to start instead of Bosingwa and Carroll to start for Liverpool, could give them some problems.

Is this the first game ever with Torres and Suarez both playing?

Any kind of a win will do. Won't exactly be disappointed with a draw. I hope the set up is right and we go away with something and no injuries. 1-2 maybe, hopefully.

If Liverpool go with pace up front they could expose Chelse'a high defensive line. Could be the day Liverpool finally get over their shyness in front of goal.

Dalglish's tactics will be interesting, he had great success with 3 at the back in this game last year.

Big nine days this for Liverpool, if Dalglish gets things wrong in the next three games questions may start to be asked and pressure start to kick in.

Would go more 4-3-3 myself, just Adam and Lucas might get overrun on their own in the middle. I'd put one more in there, drop Downing and put Kuyt, Suarez and Bellamy as the front three.

    2-1 Carroll and Suarez.

    Hope Bellamy starts.

    Love to see this

    Reina

    Kelly
    Carragher----Agger----Enrique

    Lucas
    Adam

    Kuyt----Henderson---Bellamy

    Suarez

We need a third midfielder a stamford bridge, otherwise i'd be afraid we get overrun.

Kuyt can track back and work his socks off and also join Suarez when needed. Bellamy would provide much needed pace to our attack, given Chelsea have a high line, and employ an attack first/defend second philosophy.

Chelsea will give us chances today, its crucial we take them

Hopefully Liverpool will get the same result as in may 1986...
When King Kenny as player/manager got the only goal of the game to clinch the title in the last game. Legend!!!

can't see anything but a pool win. I don't rate liverpool very highly but i just think AVB will commit tactical suicide and chelsea will concede sloppy goals, the game is set up perfectly for liverpool but chelseas tactics will give the home side no chance. I hope to god I'm wrong and avb gets the tactics right

    Reina
    Johnson
    Carragher----Agger
    Enrique
    Lucas
    Henderson

    Adam
    Kuyt
    Downing
    Suarez

    Torres
    Mata
    Sturridge
    Lampard

    Meireles
    Ramires
    Cole
    Terry
    Luiz
    Ivanovic
    Cech

I predict something like that for both teams. I think KD will lineup the same way he did against United with Henderson replacing Gerrard and Agger + Johnson back in the team.

Chelsea's is slightly more difficult to predict. I think that will be the front three, possibly Mikel in for Meireles in midfield and Alex in for luiz at the back. Hard to know.

That side has a soft centre I think, we need another central midfielder to avoid being overrun.

It's a big couple of weeks for Liverpool but Dalglish seems to be above reproach, I think it would take a lot more than three bad results to have people start putting pressure on him.

Rumour is Suarez won't start. It that's true I'd hope Bellamy on left, Downing on right and Carroll up front though would more likely be Kuyt.

this XI is what I would go with, solid in midfield with sacrificing the pace in attack.

Downing could do with being left out just to let him know he needs to up his game.

I'd go with Carra over Skrtel at Stamford Bridge. Suarez as the lone striker would be ideal also, capable of holding it up, and may just have some joy with Chelsea playing a high line.
