Yeah... If you want bad breath, BO and constipation! Just another fad gimmicky diet IMO.

My very brief reading makes this basically sound like Atkins. Am I missing something?

If you are looking for a good healthy diet that works try the System10 Weight Loss Plan, I am currently on this diet and have lost nearly 2 Stone in the past 4 weeks.

How is losing 7pounds a week healthy?
I'm ignoring the rest of the post, it sounds too much like advertisement for a product but (even with the advertisement) it sounds like a crash diet.
What kind of food do you eat on it?

Its low fat, Atkins isnt. Dukan is low fat and low carb.

I'm not well up on this but I happened across an article this week that said that doctors who'd studied the Dukan diet ( as used by Kate Middleton no less ) saw no sceintific reason why it should work and claimed it doesn't. I'm only repeating what I read - maybe a google search would find the article and might prove useful

They seriously said they saw no reason why a low calorie, high protein diet would work....?

Here's the article from the Indo.
THE Dukan Diet, which it is thought Kate Middleton followed to slim for her wedding, is confusing, rigid and has absolutely no solid science behind it, the British Dietetic Association has claimed.
The Dukan Diet -- also followed by her mother Carole Middleton -- is a complicated four-phase diet that starts off with a protein-only approach that promotes weight loss of around 7lb per week.
Mrs Middleton told an interviewer last year she was following the diet and it was rumoured her daughter had taken up the plan, created by Frenchman Pierre Dukan, before her wedding to Prince William.
However, the Dukan Diet topped the British Dietetic Association (BDA) annual list of the five worst celebrity diets to avoid in the New Year.
It works on restricting foods, calories and portion control. However, the BDA says cutting out food groups is not advisable.
The BDA said: "This diet is so confusing, very rigid, full of very French foods that most Brits would run a mile from like rabbit and offal, and even Dr Dukan himself warns of the associated problems like lack of energy, constipation and bad breath."
It said the diet has "absolutely no solid science behind it at all".
The BDA receives hundreds of calls every year on the subject and comes across a huge range of weird and whacky diets and diet claims.
Based on telephone call volume and other contributing factors, the Dukan Diet topped a list of celeb diets to avoid in the New Year. Next on the list of diets to avoid is the "Alcorexia" or "Drunkorexia" Diet, believed to be followed by many top models and other celebrities.
It involves eating very little during the day or week -- a very low calorie (VLC) diet -- and then 'saving' all the calories not eaten to binge drink alcohol. The Blood Group Diet -- said to be followed by Cheryl Cole and Courtney Cox-Arquette -- is also one to avoid, according to the BDA, which says it is "completely based on pseudo-science". Completing the list of the BDA's weight loss programmes to avoid are the Raw Food Diet and the Baby Food Diet, followed by Lady Gaga.

I don't know much about it. My sister has followed it for 18 months, and lost 5 1/2 stone. I mentioned the article and she said she doesn't find it restrictive at all.

I think the diet has been criticised for being too low fat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭Mack_1111

It was completely dismissed as having no scientific basis by the British Dietetic Association!

    Hi all!
Know of people that have done this. It is a short term solution. The weight does come back on. Even if you follow the diet to the 'T'. IMO you're better off with regular exercise and healthy eating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,733 ✭✭✭jam_mac_jam

its very low fat, you will get the same results with low carb which is much easier to do then watching carbs and fat. There is only so much salmon and chicken you can eat. I did the first part for a few days, 3/4 days I think and then went for a low carb. Its a good way to start or to loose a couple of pounds quickly but a bit silly for any length of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

I lost 1st 10lbs on this, still want to lose another 4lbs but I'm finding it hard to stay on the straight and narrow the past 6-8 weeks. It suited me because although it is restrictive in what you can eat, you can eat unlimited amounts of it!! I'm not one for counting calories. But realistically, I'd probably have lost the same amount of weight on any low carb diet. It is good for a "kick start" to weight loss though I do agree its unsustainable for a long period of time if you have a lot to lose.

i had a stone and a half to lose to get to my goal weight. i have been on it for 4 weeks and have lost 12 pounds so have 9 to go. i found the first phase 'attack' the most difficult, replacing sugar with sweetener and using skimmed milk but i'm used to that now, it was hard trying to find foods to eat but once i went onto the 'cruise' phase and alternated with veg i found it much easier. i have lost between 2 - 3 pounds a week. i will say that anyone wishing to do dukan be prepared to spend a bit more in the shopping as protein costs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭Pixie Girl

I read the book and tried it for a a few weeks.... During the attack phase (which I did for 5 days) I lost about 8lbs so it was a good start but then I just got so sick of eating only protein, the protein and veg days in the cruise phase were ok but I missed fruit so much!! I got sick of it eventually and gave up! Needless to say I put back on the weight when I started eating carbs again!

Low carb is much easier if you eat more fat its easier to stick to and much better for you. If you try again go for something like Atkins or The idiot proof diet.

just thought i'd update and let people know i reached my target weight. i lost 10 kilos in about 9 weeks. am in the third phase of the diet (week 2) where you introduce wholemeal bread (2 slices a day) hard cheese (40 grams a day) and a piece of fruit (apple, pear, berries) and have managed to keep the weight the same. also at this point of the diet you can have celebration meals and a glass of wine twice a week and you are still sticking to the diet. you of course need to keep up the exercise and i have been sporadic with this though i did a kettlebells and a zumba class this week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭scrgirl

Congratulations Elliebn, hope you get through the next phase! I am 3 weeks in and have lost only 6 pounds. I lost about 5 in attack then 2 more in the first week so i was excited, then nothing in the second week, i was naughty and broke the diet the second weekend feeling despondant, and gained back 3 pounds, so gave it a good go the 3rd week and lost 5 so in total 8 pounds, had a few drinks last night and weighed myself this morning and have put 2 back up! Did you find your weight went up and down like this? Did you stick to it completly, I am being realistic and allowing myself have a few drinks and a few carbs at the weekend as I know i wont keep to it if I dont, but 5 days a week i am very strict. I am increasing my exercise, joined the gym and walking but not everyday, so im thinking 2 lbs a week is hardly dramatic and would probably have lost the same amount by healthy eating and exercise without all the restrictions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 111 ✭✭elliebn

i was quite strict with the food, had one or two nights out where i definitely had wine but it never made me gain anything just either stayed the same or took a few days to go. I weigh myself every day and have done since the begining, i always got a kick out of the pounds dropping and if they hadnt moved i would try and do some kind of exercise. the diet can be slow some weeks but that is normally down to how much effort you put in. the phase i'm at now allows me to have the odd glass of wine and celebration meals so i allow myself them and dont feel guilty (i felt guilty earlier on in the diet if i slipped up because i wanted to give it my all). i really want to keep it up to see if i can eat normally and maintain the weight without too much exercise (i'm not the most energetic)

Started this last weekend, currently in the 5th day of the Attack phase. As of yesterday im losing over 1lb/day so I am quite satisfied with this diet, once you stick to the rules to a T the results follow :D

There are plenty of fad diets out there.

The one weight loss system I swear by is "The Abs Diet", it's very simple they give you recipies for food and it's based on exercise and 40% Carb, 40% Protein & 20% Fat so you aren't cutting out any food groups.

There is loads of fish, beef, chicken, fruit and veg so it's not as if it's difficult to stick to and you have a cheat night where you can have takeaway and beer.

I'm on day 4 of the attack phase. I feel fine, it's actually grand once you get used to it!
Lost 5 pounds so far. Am going to do the rest of today and tomorrow in the attack phase to get me to 5 days and then bring in salads and veg!

Well done on your weight loss but losing 2.5 stone over 3.5 months is easily achievable with healthy eating and exercise.

Yes but keeping it off is the problem i have always had and with the consolidation phase in the Dukan diet i hope to achieve this, also i enjoy the diet as i am a huge meat lover and i love eggs , yogurts etc so it suits me.

Also it is healthy eating and i gym 5 days a week on the plan.

Also losing 2.5 stone may be easy for people like you and me but to say it is easily achevable for everyone is grossly wrong imo

Don't get me wrong its not easy to do but it is easy if you stick to a normal healthy eating plan and exercise. Too many of these dukan, herbal life, Atkins, etc etc. all fads.

Not taking offence at all mate just feel that if someone has not really tried something themselves the really cant make a concrete judgement on it.

I've read some parts of his book (pdf copy) just out of curiosity. I don't think much of his diet because of his fat phobia and processed foods recommendations. In his book Dukan suggests adding Vaseline oil onto your salads because body cannot digest it! ew how disgusting is that.
