Since we have a thread for overrated lets try underrated shows

For me in comedies it would be Community, Party Down, Cougar Town and Parks and Recreation (all got better as seasons with on) and for dramas I would say Justified, The Good Wife, Friday Night Lights (seemed to finally get recognised once it ended), Hawaii 5-0 remake, Brotherhood and Sons of Anarchy

+1 for Sons of Anarchy and the Good Wife

I would add The League (even though its not shown on TV over here) and Happy Endings which is fast becoming my favourite comedy.

+1 for FNL, I only discovered it recently but it's become one of my favorite ever shows, just got the final season to watch now.

Is this underrated by the general public or underrated by critics etc?

For the first one, Community, Arrested Development, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and Veronica Mars among others.

And for underrated by critics, I'm going to say The Tudors. It's not that historically correct, but god damnit I love it. And it's quite funny too.

I'm going to have to check out Friday Night Lights.

Damages is an excellent and very intelligent legal show with a superb cast led by Glenn Close but I have yet to speak to anyone offline who has heard of it let alone seen an episode.

Cougar Town is a good shout. After a very weak start it became a very watchable show.

It's underrated by UK & Irish tv stations that don't show it.
It's a really great show, the best I've ever seen & it doesn't make sense why they won't air it over here.
FX only showed season one. Don't know why they didn't continue showing it after that. Maybe it didn't pull in enough viewers?

Since when do shows that run for 5 or 6 seasons, are both acclaimed by critics and audiences and are known the world considered to be "under-rated"?!

Breaking Bad is criminally overlooked over here by TV stations.. but under-rated? No.. don't think so.

I didnt know we were looking at things from an overall standpoint. I am looking at these shows from an Irish point of view. Breaking bad is not even shown on any Sky Channels. That in itself shows to me that the show is totally under rated in Ireland/UK if its not given any air time. Most people i know dont even know about the show.

I've considered The Wire to be underrated since 16:41 on 04-Nov-2011

    2nd series is deadly :p

30 Rock - well rated by critics but not audiences. That said it has been going downhill in recent seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭Odaise Gaelach

    Twenty Twelve.

Not that it was underrated, more so that it flew under the radar. Fair enough, this was in part because it was originally broadcast on BBC Four. But it was one of the funniest programmes (sitcom?) produced by the BBC in a while, and I'm really looking forward to the second series. :)

it's always sunny in Philadelphia ridiculously funny for seasons on end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭bigwormbundoran

Action with Jay Mohr in it http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206467/

Havent seen it since it was originally broadcast on TV3 but remember it being deadly altogether and thought it was criminal that it wasnt brought back for a second series. Twas a good solid Hollywood satire basically.

(Just after checking there and it was broadcast by Fox, which could go somewhere towards its cancellation going by there sword swinging nature by which they seem to cancel shows)

    Third Watch

A great show in it's day. Severely underated.

Friday Night Lights until recently was criminally underrated, but more and more people seem to be watching it now that its finished.

A few shows that should never have been cut were:

    The Unit
    Drive
    Jericho
    Flashforward

I have to agree about it being criminally under-rated. I only got into it recently as I never even knew there was a tv series, I only knew there was a book and film. I must say the pilot episode is one of the best pilots of any show I've ever seen, it really sets the series up well. I can really see myself getting immersed in it now.

It pains me to see a show like this not to have drawn the audience figures it deserved, while pure sh*te like Glee, True Blood etc. pollute the airwaves.

Arrested Development is one of the funniest shows ever and it's coming back!

Dexter is also a really good show but some seasons have been hit and miss (with season 4 being one the best series of any show I've ever seen, ever!)

I hope the movie does the series justice. I think it has been in the pipe line for years but they never got around to making it until now.
