Yes sir! Worst cod I have ever played. No patches for the out of map glitches, more lag then ever before. Semtex/frags are of no use, camping is worse than ever. Robert Bowling is harder to find than Waldo...Maps are too clustered with nothing going on but head glitching...shotguns are a joke.

And finally the spawns are fubar.

    RIP COD 8/11/11

Kinda bored of the MP already. Maybe that will change if I go back but its just not as good as black ops imo. Bad maps are just bad. Matchmaking is sh!te on PC, no swan dive, bad spawns, assasin.

Worth it for the SP alone for me but MP just doesn't compare to black ops and doesn't even rate close to battlefield. I will give infinity ward one thing though! they sure do know how to decive people into giving them their monies year in year out.

Played it four days solid last week
Absolutely love it but not having any lag issues that is killing it for a lot of people

None of the above - happy enough at the moment, not ecstatic though.

I think its a little premature to condemn the game 9 days after release. Give them time for the first substantial patch. If that doesn't fix it, then feel free to noob-tube it out the door.

Yes, they should have had the ranges on guns fixed. They are working on it - the SPAS range has increased and the 95 has definitely been nerfed - and proper too!

Re glitches, in fairness, all of the maps are new and notwithstanding the fact that they had tonnes of time to test the gameplay, some of them only come out in the wash after being released to the public.

Spawns should definitely be fixed, Assassin, the Elite website and connection issues in games also.

    My verdict is..

it has the potential to be a great game... we'll have to wait and see if the aftercare which was promised materialises.

On a side note, I believe that there is now a lot less fixation on stats - alot of the people I play with are less concerned with their K/D ratio, and are now legging it about the place actually having fun while trying to win games. I can only conclude this is due to the lack of readily available stats in the lobby (sorry Floyd). This has always been the way I've played, and I think its a definite improvement.

poll lacks option: SP was nice; MP was er...

Enjoyed the campaign but I will be spending more time on TF2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭ondafly

Single player campaign is great popcorn fun so far. Really enjoying it

Spec ops is also fantastic craic.

however the big one, the real reason we buy the game; Multiplayer

-maps are far too small, it seems once you get a kill you die
-SMG or bust seems to be the only option now for kills
-Killstreak rewards are frivalous now, no sense of achievement anymore, and makes your own life less valuable in-game
-Quickscoping has become even easier, that even I can snipe with ease

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,044 ✭✭✭gcgirl

Having great fun with it spent over 26 hours so far on it, fair enough lag is a pisser but to be honest not as bad for me as blops was and the maps are grand once you get used to them, K/d is not an issue because I simple don't give a **** about it I play to have fun not a rage fest, loving the fact you can hear some one for a few seconds after you kill them, loving the fact I can take out 3/4 people at the same time, it's made me a much improved player so thumbs up from me;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,898 ✭✭✭✭Nalz

Love it... I'm not a mega positive killstreak hunter so if the game plays well with a bunch of mates and you have a laugh then I'm more than happy.

Kill confirmed, domination and HQ keep me entertained for hours. Maps are a bit messy and smallish and the spawning can be a bit messed up at times (the amount of times I spawn right into a bullet or shoot a guy in the back the minute I respawn is way more frequent then MW2 or Blops).

Quickscoping is back....grrrrrrrrrrrr but if it happens to much too me I just bring out the noobtube class :)

All and all it gets the thumbs up for me.

    Anyone encounter any boosting yet?

    Enjoying multi-player so far .

    Love spec-ops .

Yay, really enjoy MP when I get on but can take ages for me for some reason. When I get an invite tho or join a game I'm straight in. Like the levels, and the non stop action and also the strike packages. Haven't played much of SP yet so will reserve judgement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭Plumpynuter

I much prefer it to black ops and MW2. Feels responsive and fast and balanced to me. I like the new maps as they force people to play out of their comfort zone. I like the toned down explosion damage. Hit detection is good and runs very smooth on XBL. Map design solves quick scope issue and shotguns are about right to me. Elite is just about there now and is a great addition to the series.

I am looking forward to the new maps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

    underwhelmed so far.

    The Pros:
single player was great, really enjoyed it.
spec ops is brilliant, its a game in itself.
the sound, back to is glorious self.
looks fine, moves at a great framerate(when not lagging)
    specialist setup is brilliant
    kill confirmed is class
like that streaks are more support based, everyones running uavs and sam turrets opposed to chopper gunners and ac-130s, I've seen 3 legit ac-130s so far not care package ones.
    guns are cool.

    Cons
Elite not working properly even now, a joke for a paid service.
Some maps are fine, some are crap.
spawns are AWFUL. guys spawn behind me even at my own domination flag ALL THE TIME. spawns flip even though the teams are on opposite sides of the map. fix them or it'll ruin the game.
lag, lag. laggggggggggggg on ps3. 4 bar connection, framerate drops, random pauses, emptiing clips into people and gettnig hitmarkers.

if the lag and spawn issues are fixed then grand, will get back into it, until then its spec ops and Skyrim for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

I think it's good - great SP and Spec OPs modes, worth of the price alone - but the multiplayer is cracking too, though I've yet to find a true classic map, like Terminal in MW2. The only con at this point for me is the atrocious spawning online, it's dreadful.

    23 hours in now..

First few days I was blown away by it, think the new point streaks and game modes are great but now I I'm thinking "meh". I'm a bit disappointed there hasn't been any change to the game. I knew full well what to expect out of it when I bought it and was equally happy to part with my money as Im a huge cod fan.
But now that it's here I'm disappointed. Ah well, another prestige will really make my mind up.

Poor map design and the community are very hard cons to forgive.

The gun sounds, gameplay and quality are very good though. The dlc will make or break it for me, if they are good maps then it will clear 50% of my gripes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭thewing

As an old skool gamer who took a long hiatus from quake, unreal tournament and counter strike (at its peak) to return to shooters with blops, I am not enjoying MW3 - camping is mental, spawns are brutal, air support is worth at least 5 or 6 kills if no one takes 'em down and the lag is brutal at times.....they better get busy quick with the patches before i'm off to battlefield to check that out..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 56 ✭✭SooooBored

    Yay .

These game's will always take a few weeks to settel down, with players finding there best classes, perks, get used to the maps and what not.

With the game only costing 53 blips ya cant really argue. I got close to 20 days game play in Black Ops which works out bout 11cent per 1 hour of game time.
Ive often paid 200 euro for 1 hour where I also get to shoot

I love MP. It takes time for a patch to be released and certified. Im not experiencing much lag (Xbox).(For those complaining about lag, what console are you on?) The only problem i have is with the spawns. They need to be addressed. Every game has issues on release so i wouldnt go saying its rubbish so quickly

    Havent played SP
    Spec ops is great
MP is great. (Just needs a few minor tweeks)

    My opinion.

It doesn't a whole lot of time to say on Twitter that we are addressing the issues and a patch will be released  Silence has been deafening.

Not every game has issues on release.

    To keep it brief...

Against better judgement, I'll wait for the patch. But up to now, multiplayer has sucked. Spec Ops and Campaign are excellent though.

I agree with you there that IW have been fairly quiet lately. Havent seen a tweet from Bowling in a long time. When i say every game i mean a cod title. My bad.

No bother. Lag (or simply hits not registering for whatever reason) wise which seems to be the main problem for many thus making it unplayable for the most part wasn't an issue in COD3, COD4, MW2 and BOPS as least.

    Happy enough with it.

Like the maps.Couldnt care less about snipers whinging that there's no big open maps so that they can camp like biatchs and work a kill streak.

The killstreak classes are a good idea and I think the MOAB is a hell of a lot better than the nuke .

Having said that it does have its issues but hopefully they will get it sorted out.

Finally, and I've said it before,Its only 50 odd euro for the game so its more than likely you'll get your monies worth.

    Undecided.

Single player was alright, multiplayer has glitches, stupid hitboxes, and terrible spawnpoints. Maps are designed in such a way that its basically a cluster****.

Probably skewing towards dislike but I'll keep at it for another bit.

Loving the Wii version still though :P

Spawning is annoying me now. The Carbon map spawning is a joke. Reminds me of rust nearly where if you're lucky you immediately have a guy to shoot in the back when the game starts.

That and quickscoping... just take that out ta fack!

You're right about the spawning, but before I quit MW3 Carbon got under my skin more than any other COD map for the weirdest reason: everywhere you go there's a truck, or a massive excavator, but every path is a rat run that would barely fit two abreast. How did anyone drive them in there in the first place?

That, and these things are parked on an incline, taking fire from AC130s and nades.

I never experienced claustrophobia before that map, now I expect to be crushed by heavy machinery.

If the combat was any use I'd have been suitably distracted.

My least favourite COD map ever.

Went through a few nights where I was on the brink of trading it in, ended up getting into ****ty matches and couldn't get any kills. but stuck with it and absolutely love it now. Its a bit of a change from Black Ops and I think that it takes a bit of time to get used to the different guns and maps. Only map not crazy about is underground. That map alone is probably the main reason I got a ****ty k/d ratio....well that and I'm not very good.Planning on getting the premium elite over the next few days.I have to say as well that playing with decent people instead of randomers makes a massive difference to the game as well.

I enjoyed the single player, it was patchy in a couple of areas, there were one or 2 missions that felt a bit tacked on, but the action and the overall story was good, and the ending felt like a good resolution to the series. It was great to be back in
the gunner seat of an AC130
, and it was brilliant to get to be
a juggernaut for once in the final level, instead of getting f*cking annihilated by the b*st@rds as usual.

Am planning to get into special ops later, so will post back on that, but i'm looking forward to playing the co-op multiplayer modes much more than the competitive ones. COD competitive multiplayer has gotten very annoying to me over the last couple of years. It feels like you have to be online 24/7 to stay competitive, with perks and level ups and stuff, and that just isn't an option for me these days.

You've hit on something there that I totally agree on. In terms of long term playability, playing with regulars on here really does make a massive difference to the game, you can look past an awful lot of pitfalls in a game whilst playing with or against friends, but continuously getting stuck with randomers will only drive you mad as all the shortcomings present themselves.

Longevity wise it's how well a game does things like private games, party chat, invites sytem, that brief moment of hearing enemy chatter after you make a kill, that will keep people returning to a game. Had I persisted in playing multiplayer online alone I'd have given up on CoD a long time ago. Listening to some of the complaints in the megabitch thread I wonder if I'm playing the same game as some others on here.

Found the single player ok. Ending was very good.
Survival is a nice addition, would have been more fun with 4 players.
    Spec ops was very good
What ruins it is the rat maze like multiplayer maps. They are way too small and unimaginative. Even looking around them I can see places that they could have used but are blocked off.

So considering I would be mostly playing multiplayer its a nay from me too.

The more I play multiplayer, the less I like it. Quick scopers, head glitchers, lag, bad maps and possibly the worst spawning system in a FPS ever.
Disappointing as at the start I much preferred it to MW2.

    Loved Multiplayer in MW2..

I'm really struggling to get a good K/D ratio in MW3.. It just seems that you get killed every 2 seconds..

I'm not the greatest COD player but I know I'm far better than my stats show.

It's making me dislike Multiplayer.. Might go back to MW2.

Anyone else stuggling with their K/D ratio?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,411 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

yeah my kdr is about 35% worse in MW3 but I'm absolutely loving it.
    - Playing with better players really hurts cos they mop up all the easy kills and anyone they can't handle pose a real problem for me.
    - Kill confirmed isn't helping
    - I used get a lot of kills with claymores and in S&D. Haven't really used/played much of either
    - About 75% of the time played so far I've been pretty drunk

What really helps ya ignore KDR is the support killstreaks. Generally run UAV, SAM Turret & recon heli and have the Javelin on all my classes so I generally feel I'm contributing even when my kdr sux.

My K/D ratio is quite a bit worse than previous COD Games but at the end of the the day, it's only a statistic. I wouldn't let a statistic ruin your enjoyment of the game.

Try Abimko FMG9 as your primary weapons, scavenger, hardline and steady aim, with specialist killstreak - SOH, Extreme Conditioning a another. Great fun let me tell you.

Not putting score per min and monthly + weekly rankings in the game is a bit let down imo. A few of people on my friends list had higher k/d and w/l than me but my spm was FAR higher than most. Encourages people not to camp imo

My verdict is in on this one, Singleplayer is an absorbing experience, with a few very enjoyable sections and some good action that strikes a nice balance between tough and fun, and a satisfying conclusion to the story in the trilogy. It's too short, by at least a couple of hours, but that's par for the course with COD's story mode.

It was nice to be looking down the sights of an AC-130 spectre gunship again too, that's something that was noticeably missing from MW2, and was one of the most fun parts of this game.

Spec ops mode is probably the most fun i had with the game. The range of missions and gameplay in it gave me at least as much fun as the story mode, and the survival mode versus waves of AI is fun, but ultimately suffers too much from the lack of 4 player support to offer a lasting experience. It's a shame, because a 4 player vs. AI mode would have really been a fantastic inclusion and would have created a lot of replay value, possibly more than anything else in the game, at least for those who don't adore the multiplayer competitive modes, like me.

As it is, the 2 player limit makes it seem like there's never enough team strategy going on to utilize all the tech and options at your disposal, and as a result, games seem to lack that "fun factor" of something like Gears of war 3's horde mode, or to a lesser extent, Halo Reach's Firefight, where you can co-ordinate tactics with your team and manage different specialisms and strategies to work as a unit.

Regarding the multiplayer competitive mode, I'm the wrong person to ask, because i really don't enjoy COD multiplayer, but it just seemed like more of the same to me-An unbalanced battlefield, full of perk whores who customize everything to the Nth degree, annihilating people like me who don't spend enough time on it to stay frosty. It's the exact opposite of "pick up and play" casual gaming. It's for the hardcore, unless you like being cannon fodder. There's nothing bad about that, if it's your cup of tea, but like much of the rest of the game, there was very little that was new or any different compared to it's previous iterations, so for me it just felt a little stale.

I appreciated the addition of the "support classes" that allow you to focus on supporting your team rather than going for kills, but on the whole, unless you're working as part of a well organized team, competitive multiplayer is still the same frustrating experience as it's always been for anyone who doesn't take their COD pretty seriously.

On the whole, MW3 is a very decent game. There's nothing particularly new or groundbreaking in it compared to the last one, it really could have benefited from 4 player spec ops and co-op modes, and it is most definitely "more-of-the-same", but for anyone who enjoys a good shooter, it's worthy of a buy and has enough replay value to keep you happy whether or not you're into competitive online play.

    @Mackdaddi

I agree with most of what you say especially the spec ops & survival. I'm enjoying survival but feel it was an opportunity lost in many respects. What's keeping me coming back to it at the moment is there's trophy for getting to lvl 15 on all maps after that we'll be going for high score bragging rights.

I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoys the MP. Granted playing on your own tends to be more frustrating but I don't do that often. I disagree you are at a major disadvantage against higher ranks with more perks/attachments etc. You can have a pretty good set up early on. The RPG element of this game I find very addictive & not sure if this is blinding me to it's many supposed faults but they just don't bother me.

I think ya made y'er point pretty well tho without resorting to the usual "only a gimp would enjoy the MP" routine. :)
