Sorry if this has been asked/answered before -

I'ill be moving to the Clonskeagh area in the next month and I've been at looking at joining this gym.

If anyone is a current/former member can you give me your thoughts on the facilities and also the value for money?

Also if anyone knows how much id be looking at for the various membership options?

Id be quite interested in the Tennis programs so would consider going for the full membership.

    Thanks!

Hey Richie, my flatmate is a member of David Lloyd and he joined purely for the tennis.

I think he pays €70 a month (joined about 2/3months agao so not sure if that was a promotional rate).

He said the tennis facillties are brilliant, lots of courts indoor and out but the main thing for him since he goes on his own is the ease of getting a match with someone. There are tennis games every night which you can go along to and play singles and doubles. He said the majority of people are friendly and has even organised games with other members himself.

The gym and pool are meant to be first class also however he only really uses the pool out of preference. I think the full membership would be a good option as you might be able to get coaching lessons included, could be mistaken on that though.

70 bucks for David Llyod seems on the cheap side, I was under the impression it was much, MUCH more expensive...

so was I, he got it at a very good price but as I said I think it could have been a promotion on at the time. I think it could even be close to double that a month

Probably the best gym in Dublin from a healthclub standpoint!

Thanks for that, 70 seems like a great deal there.

Dont think id be willing to pay 140 a month though, might need to some haggling if I do go inoto them!

Yeah id definately be interested in the health club as well!

I wonder would the health club and stuff like tennis instructors be included with a full membership or would they be extras?

Tennis instructors are definately exta. They will cost you between 35 and 60 in riverview.
Membership is also alot more than 70 a month.
There are a few other clubs in the area that are much cheaper but of course don't have the facilities.
If it's just tennis you are after look at mount pleasent, donnybrook, St marys and Deerpark.

I enquired there during the summer, and I was quoted €124 a month, and that did not include the tennis courts  - just pool and gym. Needless to say, I decided not to join, despite being around the corner from work.

Have you considered west wood in Leopardstown? Full gym, classes, pool, squash and tennis included for 75 max per month.

Jesus that is steep, im expecting our company will negtoatiate a good corporate discount or subsidies, but for €124 a month id want the Tennis included for sure.

Yeah I looked at Westwood but its too far away really. I'll be literally right next to David Lloyd on the Clonskeagh road.

Actually going to the gym is half the battle for me so its such a low barrier to entry being so close.

They quote a price initially which is approximately €125 a month to join. But if you turn this down they come back to you in a few weeks with a "promotional price" which is around €70 a month. They have done this for a number of new members. This has really antagonised many of the existing members who are still forced to pay €125 or even more a month.

When questioned about this their policy is to just lie and say that this was a once off "friends and family" promotion for their staff. But I know from a former member of staff that this was not the case and it was just something they did to combat dwindling memberships.

Good enough facilities but they treat their members with total disdain.

Thanks for letting me know mate, i'll go in and enquire about the membership and then turn them down as you say :)

Hey guys, anyone know if the 'promo' rate of EUR 70 going? Was in for a tour the other day and was quoted EUR 124 a month.

It's overpriced and not good value for money. Do not park your car onsite as there is alot of robberies here - dodgy housing estate nearby. Management are very rude and treat members like crap. Some members are trying to quit the gym because of the on-going robberies and management are insisting that they give 3 months notice. Lighting around the carpark is very poor and not so safe at night. I would stay clear of this gym
