Iv played well all year, even shot par for the first time 2 months ago (a great feeling) unfortunately that's where my game started to slide , my short game is gone to **** and my long game isn't far behind it , Im struggling to break 90 now !
I'm at the point where I'm not enjoying playing anymore , the love for the game is gone.
Has anyone else gone through this ? And how did you over come it ?

    Chin up cocker!!
I've had really frustrating year on the course! The more I practiced the worse I got! I got 3 lessons from the club pro which messed me up even more! I then went to someone new and finally got the love back about a month ago! The morale of the story is, get a lesson it's the only way go find and correct the issue!

I know how you feel man.
Worst year I have ever had on the golf course.
    Roll on 2012!!!!!!!!!!

Sweetswing I won GOY last year in my club, handicap dropped and I thought boom single figures coming up baby! Then it started to slip end of last year, first 6 months of 2011 I could not hit a fairway, I mean it was a joke... really wrecked my head, had lessons, practiced loads, just kept at it, bought a new driver... the new driver sorted it.. uber new confidence with the club and I was hitting fairways again with no effort.... confidence rushed back.. in your case its not driver related.... just try something to get that confidence and timing back..its mainly in head..you have proved you can do it before!!!!

Its all in your head mate. A bad short game tends to feed into the rest of the round. I was struggling badly at the start of the year and when I looked back at my stats it was all down to a poor short game. I didn't get any lessons, just worked hard and tried a few different things and ended up cutting my h/c in half. I usually start chipping with an 8 or 9 iron before I go near the wedges pre - round.

happened to me in late Sep/early October. after hitting par and then -2 gross, I melted, culminating in 13 points for a 12 hole winter league comp a few weeks ago. What did I do? Slowed it right down, and went to the practice ground. Get the basics right. Check stance, grip, posture. Then slow my take away to a snails pace. I found a good rhythm, and then the last 2 wknds was only +6 and +3 for 15 holes (8 h/cap). I felt exactly like you. In fact I had one of my worst putting round in years 3 weeks ago, 3 3putts which is unheard of for me, usually hit 30 putts for 18.

Anyway moral of the story. Relax, take your time, back to basics and practice. It'll be grand :)

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Happened to me for a couple of months earlier in the year. Came down from 13 to 10 h/c and suddenly got fixated on getting to single figures before the end of the year. Couldn't do anything right after that, snap hooks and slices with my driver, shanks galore with my irons, duffs and thins with the wedges etc, etc. Culminated in my worst score for years (15 pts) in society captain's prize. It was only when non-qualifying came in that I relaxed, went back to basics and started to hit it nicely again.
So pretty much as the previous poster said, what you need to do is - stop thinking, relax, go back to the basics and build it up from there.

There you go OP - you've received some top drawer advice from previous posters on this one. Sure you're sorted - all you gotta do is relax 'cos it's all in your head :rolleyes: Ffs!!
Go get yourself a lesson....you surely knew this was the answer.

I think there's a word for what you have experienced.......golf

I have played with Sweetswing many a time and always amazed at how he digs out good scores. Maybe as the lads say above go back to basics which will get the confidence back. I know how he feels now as about 7 weeks ago I was involved in a car crash where I was hit from behind and suffered whip lash. Have been trying to play golf but confidence is gone as I am worried about the neck and back. Have been receiving physio and neck is improving but as I swing the club the thought is in my head that it is going to hurt. Golf as they say is all in the head............

I am generally very consistent on the course and have not experienced such slumps.
    they seem interesting though.

You should just give it up if you're not enjoying it anymore
it would also be safer for fellow golfers if you weren't spraying it all over the place so my advice is bow out gracefully

Well if your anything like myself, i don't play very much if any golf over the winter months so if i were to go out tomorrow and shoot a score within 10 shots of my handicap i would be delighted.
If your not lucky enough to be a member of a links course or a course with excellent drainage your best bet is to probably put the clubs away for a few months till the weather and ground conditions starts to improve .

my equipment had been interfered with in advance of this unfortunate run.
it took me two rounds to ascertain that clearly i had been the victim of a cunning plan to derail my assault of the golfer of the year award.
i was derailed temporarily, as the thread suggests - but came back stronger than ever.
