Hi. I just being stopped by Garda in Blessington on the way home from day out fishing. They asked me for proof of ownership of the boat (finally ESB registration sticker + fishing permit and plenty of fishing gear in the boot convinced them that it is not just stolen of reservoir) but they mentioned some sort of ID sticker on it. No one I asked ever heard of one and i never seen one myslef. I bought it from private person year ago (don't even have his ph no. any more). Is this thing real or they were just looking what will I do and how will i react to request? should i get it somehow for future?
Ps. I'm quite happy with them checking boats it is good thing.

All boats with an engine of 10hp or more on the Eren system and 15hp on the Shannon must be registered with Waterways http://www.waterwaysireland.org/index.cfm/section/article/page/AboutWaterwaysIr it's free and you get a handy welcome pack with your number. I have my boat registered with them even though I'm not on these waterways much it's still a handy way of keeping track of boats :D
Fair play to the Garda for checking you out, if your boat was stolen from you you would now have it back. :D

i 100000% agree to garda check (if police in Poland would be half as good i may get one of my 3 or 4 bikes back sometime as they were all custom build by me....)
My boat is only 6HP anyway so i guess it doesn't apply?
