Just wondering what people think of the advice given on Scooby's workshop?

    Here is the site.

I've heard a few people talk about him in good light and he seems to be fairly popular.

    Thoughts?

He says only people between 18 and 40 should squat. I'm gonna assume the rest of his stuff also emits from his hoop.

I don't no where he came up with that age thing, but he also advises against squats and deadlifts because lets be honest most cant do them properly and safely.

Its easy to say you should be doing squats, deads etc... but most people aren't trained to do these movements, which can be very dangerous.

Not everyone has money to spend on expensive personal trainers ya know.

If that's the argument to justify his position, why not say "don't squat without proper coaching" as opposed to "don't squat if you're under 18 or over 40".

I haven't read the website at all though. There's that much mis-information out there that I think Kevin has the right approach - as soon as you encounter something as rediculous as "only people between 18 and 40 should squat", don't waste your time reading on.

Most of his advices are not bad IMO. He does have a habit of painting things black and white though, sometimes he seems to believe that making money off fitness is evil.

I personally dont agree with a number of his training principles, but to each his own. I dont deny one can get results by training like him.

He ain't too pretty either, his opinion on the subject is based on a proximity bias.

I fail to see how personal attacks on his head shape is relevant to the OP.
His videos are generally aimed at beginners anyway, anything that encourage people to get healthy must be a good thing. He has obviously helped a lot of people change their lifes for the better, just look at his success story page, sure they're not competitive bodybuilders/powelifters but I doubt that was their aim.

In relation to squats he says:
    Squats are great if you:
    • you are over 18 and under 40 years old
    • you have been trained by a professional powerlifting coach

Note the word: great. Of course they're are going to be exceptions to this rule but lets be honest the average person squatting in the gym is using far to much weight and atrocious form.

People need to consider his target audience on youtube, for young teens with limited knowledge and equipment(weights and a pull-up bar), squats are potentially extremely dangerous(if you know what you're doing and have good form and a cage/rack, they are arguably the best exercise you can do).

If you can analyse his videos and know about squatting form, then his videos aren't for you. When you think about it, noobs won't injure themselves following his advice, and won't be charged $97 for a stupid program.

Oh and his forum is great
