Dublin - 3 hr drive from the West of Ireland. Sourcing parking and worrying if your vehicle will be safe (even in an official car park), On our park and ride trip last year, our LUAS trip was curtailed as someone got stabbed at Jervis St stop and we all had to walk the rest of the way. 45 minute walk from car parking to either RDS or Croke Park. Walking through streets littered with rubbish and the evidence of homeless and beggars everywhere. The continious risk or fear of being hassled by toe rags whilst trying to mind your own business. Driving home afterwards and arriving home about 4am. Completely wrecked next day.

Liverpool: 50 minute flight from IWAK. Had a friend living locally who collected me from Airport. Stayed in their apartment in the middle of Liverpool. Buses to Anfield left from literally outside their door. Good efficient return bus service to Anfield. About 25 minutes waiting in queue on way to Anfield and about an hour on way back. Great atmosphere in queues, good craic and Scouser banter and slagging, never felt unsafe or intimidated.

Oh an almost forgot to mention, only made the decision to go to Liverpool about a month ago and still a good range of face value tickets available and no fear of being scalped or ripped off or giving a one year + interest free loan to Peter Akien Promotions!

I suppose the contrast also depends on ones expectations and pre-conceived perceptions and the reputation of a city. Unfortunately, even being well travelled and worldly, I've found Dublin to be an increasingly unattractive and intimidating place on my visits there over the past decade. On the other hand, in spite of it's sometimes negative public reputation, I found Liverpool to be a wonderfully friendly city and felt safe at all times (Similar to Belfast which I also hugely enjoyed visiting back in April) . Dublin on the other hand, has a seriously negative and plummeting (and in my opinion, justifiably so) image problem.

I love Liverpool as a city, travel over at least 5 times a year, but you can’t say Anfield is cleaner and safer than the Ballsbridge/RDS area. Liverpool has a massive homeless problem too along with major knife crime. Even the locals admit there’s a litter problem.

Travel to Croke Park and the RDS is much easier too due to their locations and train&bus access. Unlike Anfield which can only viably be reached by bus or car.

As for humour, Scousers and Dubs are pretty much the same as they’ve both a shared maritime and immigration history.

As for price, the tickets were on par with what were charged here last year along with the £7 bottles of Carlsberg.

Strangely, I found the experience in Liverpool low key compared to Ireland. When Bruce plays a city here, even those without any interest know about it because of the whole town transforms. Over in Liverpool, there wasn’t the same buzz.

Agree with all this. Liverpool as a city doesnt have a culture of big shows just yet. As you shrewdly note, the "hype" isnt really there.

As for the anti-Dublin screed. Cmon. Tell me you know nothing about Merseyside without telling me you know nothing about Merseyside.

I heard solid info that he is doing Slane to celebrate BITUSA and his first gig here all those years ago - heard it from my aunties, neighbours, ex wife's milkman!

For anyone who misses the old paper tickets there are a couple of sellers on ebay who do personalised ones! They're about a pound more than Ticketmaster charge for a paper ticket but those are the generic blue and white ones. The ones on ebay can have the venue, date, seating / standing location and gates open time added. (oh! and you can get them done for the 2024 shows as well).

Last night in Berlin, an epic night it was. Chimes of Freedom at the end was emotional. 3 hours of Bruce & The E Street band on top form.
