Fasting the day after binging...

So at the moment I'm looking to get 'toned and shredded' and it's been working. Yesterday however I went out. I drank a 700ml vodka, which has 210 kcals per ml. so we'll say that's 1500 extra kcals (used diet mixer). I ate a massive chinese afterwards which I'll assume was about 1000 kcals and also had a few pints while I was out which add up to about another 500 calories. Soo I consumed 2500 calories more than usual.

Now I know from experience that about 2500kcals a day is my maintenance. So let's say today I don't eat anything and burn off 500 kcals on the treadmill, have I effectively cancelled out yesterday's binge? I assume I won't be losing muscle or anything as my body would still be burning off the extra calories from the beer/ fast food last night.

I feel this is a necessary question as boozy nights out are regular enough for me and I hate not going out just because I'm dieting.

At one stage I would probably have averaged over 1000kcal per day from alcohol calories (over the course of a week, not drinking every day). If you did the "3500kcal puts on a 1lb of fat" calculation then I should be one of the fattest men in ireland. Alchol is different, studies show this. Calories are not calculated with humans in mind, they are the energy given off by burning fuel, and alcohol is a good fuel, as is petrol, I don't recommend either for putting on fat.

Your chinese might have been well over 1000kcal. I weigh some of mine, most are over twice the weight of ready meals, and not as watered down. Beer bellies are usually better described as drunken chipper bellies.

Yeah I'v found that myself actually. Whilst on a J1 last Summer I drank heavily almost every night and for the first month just pigged out on McDonalds and Subway every day. I got noticeably fatter but I was actually able to lose the fat when I started eating right, despite still drinking every night.

Ever think about, y'know, NOT drinking heavily a lot? Seems the obvious solution.

And where's the fun it that?:D

I'd say just cut out the Chinese. The main reason people get fat from drinking is from eating crap whilst hammered/hungover!

I could be wrong, but I don't think fasting the next day is going to make a whole lot of difference.

I think you'd be better off hitting the gym after a blow-out and eat normally that day...fasting will leave you weak and demotivated.

Rehydrate and move on. A hangover is like major DOMS, do a little to loosen yourself out/get the bllod flowing and then rest until your next proper session (gym session :D)

Would agree with Degsy - get into the gym.

I call this two-jumper day when I put on a couple of layers and set the treadmill on an incline. I dont even think about liftin anything - my head just isn't in the right place for it. But after sweatin it out for 30/45mins I feel a better man...even if its only in my head :)

Take it on the chin and be good next week.

If you want to do the heavy session every week, average your calories out across the week and make sure you're still in deficit.

Lots of water and vitamin c, and then sit in a sauna and get rid of it, works a charm for me, but its rather unpleasant staying in a sauna for a long time.
