help needed with patching holes

    I recently acquired a wooden 18 foot lake boat, my first boat but it has a few holes.i was wondering is there anyone out there that fixes boats or would it be a difficult job to diy.

    TBH i wouldn't even touch that boat it really looks rotten underneath that paint to me..sorry man but that my 2 cents on that one

    Sorry to say this but I have to agree with forsaleireland, she is just too far gone, you would have to replace every timber on her so you would be better building a new one from scratch or looking for a fiberglass one like this http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/boats/2716279 even if I was to coat your boat in cloth and resin without replacing any timber it would cost more than €700.

    It is repairable but is it worth the work? You could splice in some good wood after cutting out the rotten parts. The ideal would be to replace the planks but this takes experience and a certain skill level. It looks like a least two planks need replacing. The ribs, elbows etc look reasonable. Would I do it for this boat? It's probably not worth it unless you have sentimental reasons for hanging onto the boat. Get out a Bradawl and start poking the rest of the boat to see what else is rotten on her before you decide anything.
