Would love to see the Irish Times go with a similar headline to The Sun when England got that "Easy" group in South Africa....

    Spain
    Holland
    Ireland
    The Germans

Please can we be in group A. Poland, England, Greece, Ireland would be lovely. To be honest, once we get one of the hosts, and avoid Germany from pot 2, we actually stand a chance of getting out of the group. 2 draws and a cheeky win is all it takes.

Just looking forward (as i do each tournament) to seeing England getting knocked out, humiliated and using every excuse in the book but the fact the team isn't good enough.
Let the hype machine get underway only for reality to bite.

Would be great to get at least one of Ukraine or Poland as our top seeds since the alternative will be Holland or Spain.

Great to get England or France as well for different reasons.

Realisitcally we're just going to be there to make up the numbers, and I'm fine with that. Back in 2002, the 'just qualifying is an achievement, anything else is a bonus' stuff used to get on my nerves, as I felt we had a decent little team heading to Korea/Japan and that we had an outside chance of going quite far. (This was prior to Saipan happening).

I see this tournament quite differently. No world class outfield players in my view. I really think it will be remarkable if we are there alongside the likes of the Dutch, the Spanish, the Germans etc. as I think they are a level or two above us.

For me the important thing about being at Euro 2012 is the inspiration and excitement it will provide for young fans. When I was a kid it was the Charlton era and we were qualifying for tournaments and the nation was loving it. Since '02 we've had ten years of heartache and there are kids my age who have been born in the meantime who don't have the fond memories of the past like I and others of previous generations do.

I think therefore that the buzz and excitement of being involved, and hopefully one or two great moments, will do an untold amount of good for the sport and hopefully inspire the next generation of players. Rugby World Cups and All-Ireland successes are one thing, but imo nothing quite grips the nation's imagination like a football tournament.

We want to be in pot C. Games being played in Poznan and Gdansk. If or group is Poland, Italy and Greece even better!!

Off topic but is the seeding sorted out for the WC qualifiers?
I think I read somewhere here before that they were but can't remember.
Need to know as I am arguing with a mate at work.
I am claiming RoI are in Pot 3
He claims RoI will be in Pot 2

The World Cup draw has been done already and Ireland were in pot 3.

This is the exact 'dream group' that I came up with earlier.

We would still be underdogs to qualify but could get a result against any of those teams, and England without Rooney would be particularly vunerable.

Getting Poland/Ukraine and avoiding Spain/Holland(Germany?) in the first pot is vital

Goes to show what a great achievment it was (barring a disaster) for Ireland to qualify.
Quality oposition no matter what group we find ourselves in. We are more or less guaranteed 3 world class matches of the highest calibre in world football and can't wait to see how we cope..hoping this run of good fortune can continue for Trap's Army..

Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Italy. It wouldn't be the bail out group though.

It would be the group of debt!

England will probably win the tournament. Everyone will be expecting them to be shyte, no expectations, Rooney banned for the first 3 games. But I can see them doing well. With Wilshere in midfield, they have that bit of extra quality and if they can just get the defence sorted out, they could do well.

Don't see why it is impossible. With a bit of luck and some of the better players playing well, they could do. Greece won the Euros, Liverpool won the CL in 2005. Anything can happen.

    No expectations on England? Really?

Have you ever seen the coverage surrounding England at an International football tournament?

Don't get me wrong. I want to see all the teams play to their highest ability (Except when playing Ireland) and if Engalnd do this they can give any team a game. Didn't England prevent the wags from going to the last tournamet in an effort reduce press coverage or something..whatever it was it didn't work. If all the players behave themselves, stay out of the press, concentrate on the football..you are right anything is possible.

There's literally more chance of me having consensual sex with Mila Kunis.

They'll be drawn in one of the easier groups, they'll think all they have to do is turn up, will scrape through that group with a couple of draws in games they should win, and then lose in the knock-outs against the first half decent and organised team they face.

How will the stadiums work considering the massive travel distances? For example, willl group A play in a few staidums in a patciular area, while group B will play in other stadiums? Or will teams have to travel massive distances to play?

Thinking about it but wont know until 12th December when the draw is made. Hope were in either Gdansk, Wroclaw or Lviv. Best cities of the lot. Gdansk has a beach not too far from the old town as well.

I'm thinking flying to probably Warsaw or Krakow and getting a train from there.

Hostels are the only option accomadation wise probably out of the old towns for cheaper prices

Theres a link in the OP.
But to sum it up Group 1 is in Wroclaw and Warsaw, Group 2 Kharkiv and Lviv, Group 3 Gdansk and Poznan, Group 4 Donetsk and Kiev.

If you are in Group 1 or 4 and qualify you stay in the same country, Groups 2 and 3 qualifiers swap country.

Not sure about that - it's rare to get an easy group at the Euros. With Rooney suspended I can see them going out at the group stage. They'll be at a particularly awkward phase - their old (failed) generation is still there but well past its best, while the new one is still a little bit too young.

They always seem to have a group of extremely talented players, really wouldn't be surprised if they click for once and get it right next summer.

Question: How many people here would be shocked if England won Euro 2012? Because of the presence of this generation of Spanish players they aren't first favourites, but I certainly wouldn't rule them out.

I'd be absolutely shocked. They haven';t the technical skill of some of the other teams and Capelo probably won't set them up to play to theiur strengths.

This team would be their best IMO:

    Hart

    Richards
    Smalling----Terry
    Cole

    Parker

    Wilshere
    Cleverley

    Sturridge
    Welbeck

    Rooney

But he'll never pick it in a month of Sundays and he'll probably try and find some way of fitting Gerrard and Lampard in yet again. Still wouldn't be good enough to win it mind you but at least they'd combine technical skill, ball retention, pace and flair. Capello would never be brave enough to go with it though.

If you're willing to give England a chance of winning the thing, surely you must have Ireland in as a decent shout too?

id prefer to get Italy then England in pot 2. Cant understand why everyone thinks England would be the easier option.

England would 6th or 7th, Ireland 11th or 12th. I'd give Villa, Fulham, Sunderland and Liverpool about the same chance of winning the premiership, though.

I'd have Ireland lower than that. How many of our players play regularly for mid-table PL clubs?

They made no excuses last year. Everyone admitted they were taken apart by the better side and made no excuses despite the Lampard "goal".
