What to eat straight before a training session?

    Hiya,

Just looking for ideas for good pre-gym snacks - I know the ideal scenario is to eat a few hours beforehand but on those days (you know, we all have them!) when I'm running home from work starving and need to be in the gym 30 mins later, what would be a good option to tide me over?

I can't train on an empty stomach btw, I'd just keel over.

    Thanks a mil

Bring something into work and eat it 1-2 hours before :)

A banana and some nuts should do the job? If I'm hungry I'd have half a banana beforehand and then the other half with a protein shake after my session.

I've a 5kg bag of these which last ages.

They're not my go-to pre-training choice but I take them when time is tight. They're of a similar consistency to Whey powder (maybe slightly thicker) so mix well in a shake.

The flavoured wasn't available back when I purchased mine so I mix 3 scoops of this with a scoop of flavoured whey and either milk or water (preferably milk)

I do the run home from work and straight to the gym most days. Banana does the job for me just before I leave work, in the gym 40 minutes later

God would they not just basically curdle in your stomach when you're training?! I had a protein shake once when I was in a rush to the gym and I nearly puked my guts up mid session.

It probably depends on the person. I've never had a problem. I'd drink it down and then wait 30 minutes before the gym.

Yes this is what I do normally - but I'm talking specifically about those disorganised or busy days when I haven't been able to eat at work .... :)

Thanks all :) I presume then that regular oats would be a good option too (as opposed to the instant variety)?

I'd say they'd probably be fine - especially if blended up. I'd say they digest quicker that way.

Before I bought the ones from myProtein, I read a post (dunno if it was on Boards or another site) saying that the myProtein ones are a waste of time because you can just blend up standard oats. However, I went ahead and bought the myProtein ones for handiness.

Ordinary oats are just fine..tesco sell a kilo for 78 cents..stick 100gms in a blender with a banana and a couple of scoops of whey and head to the gym 30 mins later.

So you'd recommend protein before a gym session? I always took a scoop afterwards alright ....
