Why don't these liars use their real names? I see a certain Anthony Fagan was up in court the other day, his radio name wasn't used.

How can these people lie to their listeners every day? Mr.Fagan, not am I only disgusted but I feel cheated. Same on you sir, shame on you.

That's different. I use a different name on here because I'm already famous. Fagan is doing it the wrong way round.

Because it means they get to think up hilarious fake names such as Rick O'Shea...and by hilarious I mean mildly amusing for about 3 seconds to anyone who gets it (plenty don't) and then it's just meh.

I think everyone gets it, what little there is to get.

I would imagine it's because of the sheer amount of crazy people out there who develop unhealthy obsessions with on-air personalities. It does happen, and I have no problems with on air DJs using different names on air. Tony Fenton, Nikki Hayes, Rick O'Shea, Stephen Dee are all examples off the top of my head, they might not all do it for that reason, but I would use that excuse myself!

Many radio DJs started their careers on pirate radio, and hence preferred not to use their real names.

I don't think that's it. If it was then why don't TV celebrities do the same?

Don't think the crazy radio stalkers would have a hard job finding out their real names if they're doing things like dodging tax either.

It's just to sound cool on the radio and jazz up their name. Funny how they all pick sh*te names that resemble their own..

Not all do to be fair, Dusty Rhodes picked a sh*te name that didn't resemble his own.

I know there's a wrestler called Dusty Rhodes. Name rings a bell for a DJ too but it is indeed a sh*te name. What was he thinking? Makes Fagan look like a creative genius.

I was watching TV3 news during the week and it said Martin King got married. So I put him into wikipedia. Turns out his real name is Martin Byrne. As we all know his background was radio. So add him to the list of people who use 'stage names'.

That is totally stupid. Like Dusty Rhodes is a very famous wrestler. Granted not everyone will know of him. But wrestling has had a large fan base over the years. So question is, why would such a DJ pick a name thats known? Its stupid.

I use the stage name of 10green bottles,my real name is Daniel Radcliffe, sorry about the poor bluff :(

It's an insult to us all. It's like he's laughing at the confusion he's caused and where is he to sort this mess out? Pr*ck.

One thing that makes me laugh at is what he looks like ( http://www.digitalaudioproductions.com/dusty-rhodes/ ) :pac:

"hi, my name is .... dusty rhodes baby!" - with his glasses and stuff. Looks like he works in IT, not on radio.

Surely this is a wind up by the OP isnt it? If not then as has already been pointed out OP why dont you use your real name on Boards? Why hid behind the ColeTrain alias?

Surely you can see the difference between a forum user and a DJ who wants the publicity?

To be fair, he's (DJ) had that name since the 80's (not sure if the wrestler was about then or not, cause i'd never heard of the wrestler until recently :( ). As someone else hinted at. Fake names were givin out years ago for DJ's working on the Pirates, because of legal issues. Some kept their name, like Dusty, Robin Banks, Sandy Beach, Rick O'Shea etc. Others dropped them, like Nails Mahoney.

Is it not a hangover from the days when pirate radio was mainstream ?

    FYP

Contrary to popular misconception it was not illegal to work for a pirate station in Ireland before 1989.

I dont get it. Whats wrong with using a pseudonym?

Loads of people do it, Actors, Authors, DJ's. Why does it matter?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭Kasabian

    Kasabian is my real name.

People never believe me when I introduce myself.

    Touché good sir.

You made me wonder something else. If people are annoyed by DJ's using pseudonyms, are they annoyed by people not using their real names as usernames on websites?
