Released in 1986 by Taito this breakout clone takes the genre to a new level.

You Mothership gets blown to bits and your Vaus gets ripped into a void.Quite simple enough really:D

On the surface this is just another bat and ball game but with many different power ups and lots of different level designs this is a game that will keep you busy for quite a while.

Other then Boulder Dash this was one of my Favourite games on the C64 and Arkanoid has found its way onto many other platforms most recently on the Xbox360

Well worth playing and im sure most of you will be shocked at my choice for game of the week :D

Cant post vids as i am in college but i am sure most of you remember this Classic.

Yeah, Revenge of Doh is the one I really remember playing to death on the C64.

Great choice of game! I remember playing this loads many years ago. Simple, quality gaming. Nice one. :)

My uncle was lethal at Arkanoid (arcade). We used to have a book in the 80's and 90's that sourced high scores from Twin Galaxies and he smashed their best recorded high score on the hardest setting by quite a margin, every time.

Was Arkanoid made by the fella that made Uridium?

Araknoid is Spanish for Boulder Dash, right?

An absoulte classic. I played it to death in Dublin Airport and it was pretty distinctive with the dial/spinner.

Yeah, remember it well. Spent weeks playing it on my beloved Atari 800XL!

And for the truly committed collector, which would be all of you, here is something to bid upon, given the game of the week.
    Arkanoid controller for Nes

I think that was Paradroid, Andrew Braybrook.

Arkanoid, class game, the Martin Galway tune is class.

I only ever played the XBLA remake. Good game but a bit repetitive.

I was never much of a fan of Breakout clones, Breakout itself is fine but the follow-ups with pickups and the rest all seem to add too much random into the mix.

I wouldn't consider myself the worlds best gamer or anything but my god is that game hard! Each element of it is simple but the combination is so so unforgiving. I'm playing on emulator atm and I've probably used up dozens of lives just to get to level 12 so far. The idea of someone getting thru it all in 3 is impressive!

Should game of the week make a comeback?

It would help if other people would do the random thing every friday, I ended up doing it myself and when booze, drugs and women got in the way it got forgotten about. Nothing stopping people running it in the randomiser right now. At the moment I'm too busy doing drugs, Xenoblade is that addictive.

    So basically
I'm too lazy, someone else do it

:D I commend your honesty good knave

Would it be possible to do a randomizer on a game list instead? So nobody really picks a game?

We'd end up playing lots of games we'd never heard of before. Some would be ****, but that'd be part of the fun I guess!

Add Legend of Dragoon and Overblood to the list.

Not up for this idea at all. The populist choice wins and then it gets boring.
