    From http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/9636.php:
Toyota and Munster Rugby have announced that the Munster team will be sporting special edition jerseys for their home Heineken Cup pool games at Thomond Park over the coming months.

And here is this special edition:

    Toyota_Hybrid_Jersey_Web.jpg

Shameless and horrible, nice one Toyota!

What Leinster H Cup jersey? There isn't one.

That is a massively ugly jersey. The provinces have all gotten worse jerseys as professionalism has gone on.

How is it "shameless" - Toyota pay for that spot, its fair enough that they change whats on it. Its the same as the standard jersey and is not going to be for sale. I've no problem with it tbh.

I dont like it but if it brings in a more sponsorship to the province then I say go for it, look at the Ospreys and some of the Italians gear, covered in sponorship.

Shameless because of them lauding a new "special edition" shirt...

That's the third kit, not an official Heineken Cup jersey. Hopefully they won't have to wear it too often. Though I do like it more after seeing it in the flesh..

Didn't Ireland do something similar with O2 for the England warm-up?

I presume it says Drive Toyota with "pride and honesty" across the back?

    Bit OTT imo.
At least it doesn't say money on the front though.

Honestly, rugby jerseys have gone to pot in the last few years. That Leinster third one is an abomination.

If the top half continued all the way down it would be nice. As it stands it's absolute gick! Why must Leinster have flashy white crap on all there Jerseys. Keep it simple and slap in some gold trim!

Agreement. I didn't mind last season's version, but no fan of this one.

That said, that Munster one is truly awful as well!

Still not as bad as this one though:

That Leinster jersey is so horrible. The state of it. Who the f*ck designed that and worse still who ok'd it! What is going on with these jersey. I'd say a 10 year old would come up with a better design.

I actually think that the Leinster 3rd jersey is alright. I have a thing for manky jerseys though. Have a look at the USA Eagles 3rd jersey, it's a beautiful monstrosity.

On the Munster jersey, it will only be on it for 4 games which isn't much. It's ugly looking as hell but sure so are most Munster supporters ;)

Obviously it's bringing in a bit more revenue and every little helps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Not great looking, but I suppose it ain't the worst. I wouldn't like to see it becoming a trend though, this whole specific product placement thing. It could get a bit ridiculous.

The Leinster 3rd jersey isn't the HEC one either. Apparently all teams have to have 3 jersey options but Leinster will be using their 1st jersey as their official HEC one.

Ok since horrible jerseys are being discussed. Have a look at the Las Vegas rugby jersey.

I haven't seen this one before but in this image it looks like the bottom half of the jersey got wet and the colour ran and then the kit man never ironed it before it being photographed.

    Dont like it.

A lot of people shelled out €60+ for the replica Munster jersey only a couple of months ago. Is it right that they go and change it then?

I was under the impression it's a one-off for this match and the players' jerseys will be donated to charities so some good will come out of it.

    Nope, read the first line.

Three jerseys will be donated to charity.

Nope read the rest of the press release -

"The remaining seventeen jerseys will be donated to a charity which can then be used for fundraising for the selected organisation. Toyota will utilise its popular Facebook page platform as a facility for the public to nominate their charity of choice, during the month of February, with those picked at random being awarded the jerseys following the climax of the Heineken Cup pool stages in January.
    ....
The fact that charities will benefit from the donation of the 23 special edition jerseys after the Heineken Cup pool stage will hopefully mean that much needed funds can be raised for worthy causes at a difficult time of year for charities.”

I don't think anyone is in any doubt Toyota are hoping its a money-spinner for Toyota - that's what they pay their sponsorship money for. But at least some bit is going to charity. A charity very close to our family will be benefitting from Munster this year, long may it continue.

Oh - and I don't think it's doing the jersey any favours, looks horrible

Via Toyota's Facebook page. I see, so it's all for the greater good.

No no, just my cynical marketing brain. ;)
Shur fair play to Munster then in that case, the whole thing obviously for charity, and all the players will be driving hybrids in 2012.

Bit of disappointment compared to the Barça players getting free Audis...

I just glanced at the jersey and I thought it said Toyota Hubris.

That'd well suited for a Munster jersey, I guess

What is it with the Jersey's now. I know they are getting tighter for obvious reasons but why do the designs have to be so ugly.

Leinster in the last couple of years seem to have experimented with some really ugly patterns. The third kit shown above takes the biscuit. Until Leinster get their act together this will be the last jersey that I own:

    Is that an actual jersey?

The "classic" jersey they released a while back is very nice. Players don't wear it though.

The 3rd jersey from last year that they wore for most of the HEC games was class. Some of the training and classic ones have been good too.

Leinster wore that 3rd jersey at the A game against Ulster a couple of weeks ago. It looked better than I thought it would. It does look much better when you're looking at it from distance and when it's covered in mud... :)
